You all may already know this but I've searched everywhere and couldn't find info on it. I had to decant a whole bottle of Tamiya Chrome Yellow today and it produced 1.52 ounces of paint. Not the great deal I thought it was as I though there was 3 ounces of paint in the can.

There is more than 1.52 ounces in a Tamiya can. I have drained a full can and have gotten at least 3 ounces. I suspect you might still have paint in the can.

That is all that would come out of the spray nozzle. Glad to hear you have gotten that much out because that is what I was expecting.

I have a friend who has a tool that punches a hole in spray cans. You back off the punch and gently let the pressure escape. After that happens, you punch at the bottom of the can with a bigger hole and drain the can. I just looked at my decanted paint collection and the jars are 2 oz and they get filled up with a Tamiya can.

So I've probaby got about half an ounce left in the can you think? Or do you think there should be more? I'll probably open it tomorrow.

If it was a new can, then there should be more. The decanted paint covers more because not as much gets wasted.

I bought some glass jars. The paint I decanted 2-3 years ago is still good.

Thanks 2whl. I'll have to look those up.
I just opened the can and there was maybe a 1/4 oz left.. not much at all but that sounds about right with what you are saying because I probably lost about 1/4 oz in my straw while decanting.
Honestly, there wasn't enough left in the bottom to go through the trouble except Tamiya puts two, cool looking, larger glass marbles in the can. I'll be using those in my plastic storage bottles.

I just gotta ask you guys this question. Why would you pay for a rattle can, only to decant it when today there's Gravity, Zero, and MCW paints that are exact matches to a car manufacture's paint line?

Joel Mostly because I already had the rattle cans. Plus I bought most at a model swap meet for about $3 per can.

Joel They are slightly cheaper and good paints... 2oz for $6.. and it is easy to decant. Right now for sure I want to follow Tamiya's instructions to the T so I will use exactly what they call for. I am looking forward to trying some Scale Finishes paint next.. then some Gravity. Zero is too expensive IMO.

Thanks guys. At $3 per can, that's really cheap for sure.
