This my sole survivor from my mispent youth. When I left home at 18 I never really looked back, leaving most of my things at homr. My mother saved this model and bought a plastic case for it and glued it to the bottom. Eventually, once I'd settled down somewhat she shipped me a whole bunch of my stuff, magazines, models, etc. A lot of stuff never made it in one piece but this one did. I find it interesting that I always counted this one among my personal favorites. She must have agreed with me to single it out. It's a mid 60's style gas dragster with a lengthened chassis made from both chassis in the Revell Tony Nancy double dragster kit, a blown small block Chevy from the Revell'55 Chevy hardtop kit, which also contributed some of its decals. The bodywork was made from card stock. The model actually originally had a front wing, also made from card stock, but over the years its been lost. I think some might think my style of modeling really hasn't changed all that much, and I'm not sure I'd disagree.. I've often thought of repairing it but have always left it in "as found" condition. I've also, at various times, considered recreating using modern materials and techniques. In the meantime it continues to survive on my shelves.
This other one didn't survive and these are blurry Instamatic snaps. It's a kind of "competition set" consisting of an AMT Chevy pickup, a Revell Parts Pack Triumph (IIRC) road racing motorcycle and a chromed frame dragster built from the relevent Revell Parts Packs with a blown Chevy from the AMT Parts Pack. The apartments in the background indicate that it was built some 3 years before the dragster above. The truck was painted in chocolate brown enamel and was my first really good brush paint job after I had discovered the wonders of rubbing compound. Themotorcycle and dragster were finished in matching black enamel, like brush painted and rubbed out. The "rack" for the dragster was made from card stock and sprue.

Bernard, That is so absofreakinglutely cool! That dragster is your personal history. I'd suggest you simply clean it up lightly and re-attach the front wheel. Recreating it with modern materials and techniques sounds really cool so you can display both side by side. Do you remember what year it was built? The competition set is really cool. Love the idea of the rack. Thanks for sharing!

Hello, Remember that big tote I showed you a few hours ago? WOW! Talk about a time capsule! There are 20 models here, in various stages of despair. Not in the picture, I filled a shoe box full of loose parts from the bottom of the tote. I now have to get individual bins for each "project" so I can start segregating parts from the shoe box into the corresponding model for eventual restoration. Most of these were built between 1988 and 1993. Back row left to right: -AMT 1/72 KA50 Hokum ~1990 -Monogram 1/48 AH-64 Apache ~1988 (brush painted, clearly remember trying to remove an incorrectly glued part and have the knife cut thru my thumb like butter. Probably the worst "modeling" accident I've ever had) -AMT 1/48 Mig 27 Flogger D -Testors 1/48 RF-18 (My first time using an airbrush) ~early 1993 -Revell 1/72 CH-3C Jolly Green Giant bought at Walgreens open-box with missing decals -AMT 1/48 Airwolf. Built as Airwolf but added MARINES decals Hey! The badass Marines could use a badass helicopter! -1/48 Huey. Not sure what kit (Maybe Testors?) but I think it was my first use of Model Master Spray bombs ~88-89 -VEB Plasticart 1/100 Jak-40 I think this was the first Jak-40 I did, not the one I showed earlier in this thread. This one was built in gear up configuration. The most complete of the bunch. Only needs cleaning. -Monogram 1/32 Blue Thunder in Army cammo. No idea when but it must be pre-90 as I think it is all brush painted -Testors 1/48 Cobra Remember building it in green then repaint it in sand color -Testors (Italeri?) 1/72 Mi-28 Havoc -AMT Bell 222 civilian helicopter. It has initials the "K" and "B" in the nose for my sisters Karen and Betsy -Revell 1/48 US Customs UH-60 Blackhawk Front row left to right:-1/48 F117 Stealth fighter. Most likely the initial Monogram release. -Testors 1/48 Mig 37B Ferret -Airfix 1/144 DeHavilland Comet 4B built ~1993 Almost complete but severely warped tail. I don't recall it been that wonky. -Revell 1/144 TWA Boeing 747-100 Built in 1993. My favorite airliner. -Not a model but that's my original ~1980 Testor's thinner/brush cleaner bottle. -Monogram F15C An old favorite back in the day! -Testors 1/48 Gee Bee Racer My first "complex" masking job for painting. ~93 This model dates back to 1949 Hawk initial release according to Scalemates! -Revell? 1/144 Shuttle carrying NASA 747 I did not build this one. I bought or traded to somebody in college. I think there was supposed to be a third 747-100 somewhere with the idea on making a 747SP conversion combining these 2. Wow! What a trip down memory lane! I'll try to restore as much as possible. This gives me the hope that other missing models are still somewhere in my father's or my sister's. Thanks, Ismael

I need to dig around in my attic someday. I have a box of a few models from my youth that I kept after telling my parents they could throw the rest out (300+ of varying skill level). I know I have an Aurora C-141, a Monogram TR7, and the first model I built without help at maybe five years old - a Revell SAAB Draken. It’s mostly glue! Ben

mustang1989 's Tamiya Me 262 build had me digging around to see if I have any pics of mine (not yet), but I do have some of the 262's little brother, the He 162. This is also from Tamiya and it's a gem of a kit. I even used the kit decals, which I almost never do. Plus a couple I built a few years ago. Better options are available, now. My office for 4 years back in the early '90s (Welsh 1/144 Dash-8). And my office for 5 years until 9/11 and incompetent management ran us under (Welsh 1/144 CRJ-200). Ben

Ben, the 3 aircraft are most impressive. I'm assuming that since the commercial jets were your office, you're a commercial pilot?

Flying Dash-8s for Henson/Piedmont was my first airline job. I then flew mostly King Airs in the corporate world before finally ending up at Midway. Best job ever! I stayed on the CRJ the whole time, because I was senior enough to get weekends and holidays off. I went a whole year flying day trips, flying the first flight out of Raleigh and usually getting home in time to meet the school bus. I got type-rated in the 737, but they got rid of them and went out of business before I ever flew passengers on it. After Midway went under, I moved onto other kinds of work and haven't flown anything bigger than a hang glider since.

I really like seeing stuff like this as it's all in its raw form and looks like a very cool build. Those are Jo-Han cases aren't they?

Ben I like all of these builds Ben. I'm especially drawn to that He-162 there. I'm with you on never using the kit decals as I've always got a specific bird in mind when building one. Nice to see a fellow aviator as well. I spent 8 years as a UH-1H crewchief. Best job I ever had. Again......fantastic batch of models and I can't wait to see that 262.

It's really impressive seeing how many of you actually have models from the past. I've got armor and aircraft from the last 15 or so years when I got back into the hobby, but that's it. Still gotta get down to the basement storage and pull out some of the storage bins and take a few pics to post here. Judging by how long it actually takes me to much of anything these days, Please don't hold your breath for the 1st batch of pics.

Hello, Lindberg 1/16 Triumph Tiger 100 Built in 1993 More details in the PROJECT RESCURE HISTORY thread After the restoration: The chrome on the left side where it was resting looks good, but the chrome on the right side has deteriorated more. Also, the thick airbrushed Testors red enamel cracked and peeled in some spots. Interestingly it gives it a "weathered" look. This part was broken so I made a replacement arm to replicate the kit's part: Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, Your journey through your builds is like a trip through the History of the Plastic Model Hobby. I don't even remember this kit, but do remember Lindberg models.
