I was looking over my brushes last night, and they are not looking very well. From what I've read here you probably only need a size 0, 1 and maybe a 2. I looked at reviews and the better brushes aren't cheap. Plus I hate to spend an arm and a leg on brushes and ruin them as I didn't clean them right or something. Plus I'll probably clean them with Lacquer thinner anyways. Any suggestions ?

I have brushes that are older than walking. Some dating back to the late 70's early 80's. Thru the years I've gotten plenty of brushes but I think the newest is probably 15 years old. High quality brushes are not cheap but with proper care will last a lifetime. The secret is proper care. I always carefully clean the brushes after each use, but it depends on the paint. If brushing acrylics I usually clean with water. If brushing enamels, I use lacquer thinner to clean them. I soak them but not hitting the bottom of the jar. I carefully brush the excess in the jar's brim(? not sure if that is the correct word). Then dry it in a paper towel and store upright. I do have some disposable brushes I use for glue spreading or weird stuff that may be hard to clean.
Thanks, Ismael

The better brushes are worth it in the long run. Cheap brushes will shed bristles.

Yes good brushes are an essential, but which ones ? Also do you go with Sable or Synthetics ? I've heard Sable doesn't hold up well with harsh lacquer or thinners and enamel paint ?
