Adrian, The tires look fantastic. You really kicked them up a few notches.
And the wing does have a perfect shine for a race car rather then a show car. I've been really thinking about trying Mr. Hobby Super Clear III as everyone seems to rave about it. I've got 12 jars of Mr. Color C046 gloss clear on my shelf as that's all I've used for years. It's a pure lacquer base, while I believe the Super Clear is enamel based. Did you decant it or shoot it straight from the rattle can? And most of all how long did it take to dry ?

Joel Thank you for stoping by my friend - honestly I've always used Tamiya clears both Acrylic and Lacquer based - always thinned about 70/30 - but I started to realize that the acrylic was too unstable and much too unpredictable with a tendency to stratify over time. So I decided to give the KOOL Green ride a new option and so I went with the Mr. Hobby - my guy says this UV Cut is the SH_T ... but we will see. So far I have a mist coat and then a light second coat on the body - all run through my airbrush thinned - and I have to tell you I looked at it last night and I'm excited because it is crystal clear in colour, very stable, and dried to a hard finish in hours. Now I'm only on the 3rd coat tonight, but I will report back in on the results - so far I am a believer.

Adrian, the only clear Acrylic lacquer clear I've ever used what there X-22 that you mix with the paint, and honestly, I hated it. I've always used Testors Dullcoat and Glosscoat which are true lacquers but not very hot at all since the early 1970s, and still use them today, especially the Dullcoat. As I said, I replaced the Glosscoat with Mr. Color's C046 Gloss clear which is lacquer based and crystal clear in the bottle, no hint of any yellow like the Glosscoat has. I never gave much thought to decanting Tamiya's rattle can lacquer as there's just so many viable options these days.
Just curious as to your method of clear coating. Why do you do it over several days rather then just one session with 10 min between coats for the lacquer to set up?

What do you use to get the tire detail? Especially the rotation direction arrows and the placement indicators?
Looks great!

Thank you! Do you know if there is a 1/12th version? I don't think so because he mostly does 1/24 and 1/25 Stock Car models. A 1/12 would be sweet though

Yes I never used to decant cans until I decided to give it a shot because I couldn't find the color I wanted in a bottle and now I do it all the time - it's an easy thing to do once you learn a method you like. I know you are loyal to your Clear Coat and I understand that 100% but this Mr. Hobby Super Clear is really something special - it's a whole different world than the Tamiya Clears - completely different - it goes on smooth as silk and clear as day and hard as a rock within an hour. I'm still leaving 24 hours between coats just because I've learned than longer is always better, and I've got my work cut out for me to get the black areas on this car flat again.

Adrian, I've done a little decanting, so I know the process, but I do avoid it unless there's no other options. The Mr. Hobby Super Clear has been on my "radar" for quite some time as I know some modelers who absolutely swear by it. And they all say it's fool proof. I have 12 bottles of C046 now on the shelf, so there's no rush for me to make the switch, but I'm going to try it out anyway sooner then later.
