This kind of decal behaves a little differently than regular silk screened decals. I’ve found they can wrinkle over compound curves or even on relatively flat surfaces. I’ve had some success smoothing them out by running an Xacto knife along the ridge of the wrinkle and then dipping a Q-tip in hot water and carefully pressing down on the wrinkled spots. Heat seems to work better than setting solutions. Even with that, I still have several creases on my Mustang that I wasn’t able to get rid of. Ben Well that sucks, Ben, because IndyCals are about the only vendor for all the different forms of racing decals whether it is IMSA, F1, or IndyCars. And this is third model where I have had issues. I have a 312B in 1/12th where the nose roundel wrinkled like this. And you can't really split the decal of a curved surface because the incision will show. That's why I am thinking of doing the Ferrari 156 Dino from 1961... no decals except for the numbers. It is an MFH kit but I want one "as close to perfect kit as I can get" build in my lifetime. I see that next on your bench is a 1984 Porsche 956. Is it this same Tamiya 1/24th kit? Which livery are you doing? I am beginning to think I should have bit the bullet and done the supplied decals for the Newman livery!

Indycals has a bit of a learning curve, even for experienced builders. I might have been a little ahead of the game after years of battling airliner decals from Draw Decals. He uses a completely different printing process that seems to only respond to heat and profanity.
I have a very old (first issue?) version of the Tamiya 956 from back when they still allowed tobacco products on the decals. It has Rothman’s decals. I as going to build it as a Kenwood car using some Speedline decals but decided I had too many blue cars in my fleet, so I’m going with the Indycals Newman livery.

Thanks! I think I'll stick with the Indycals set, since I've already paid for them. If I totally screw them up, you may get a frantic PM from me! Ben

Closing in on the finish line! I will make a decision soon about what happens next. I need to finish a rebuild of an Alfa Romeo 179 which is a [auto-censored]e car. But it is torn down and stripped needs a repaint. Here is where we are today on the Tamiya 1/24 Fitzpatrick Racing Porsche 956 Skoal Bandit from LeMans 1984.

Sorry, I just saw this. Looking good!
I'd have some hot water and Q-tips standing by to press those side decals down across the model. You might have better luck than with setting solution, which might weaken and wrinkle the decals. The hot water cools very fast, so the decal doesn't stay soft and easily damaged for a long time like decals hit with setting solution do. This one also looks like a candidate for brushing on Future as a clear coat, since the clear parts are attached and the windscreen has a decal. I'm looking forward to the finished model. I like that livery and had considered it for mine. Makes me think I should drag out my Skoal Indy car and finish it.

Ben Courtesy of Chris, I have one for sometime down the road to build. I'm leaning towards the 83 Holbert winner, Rothmans and all. I'll go with Indycals on it, I don't seem to have a problem with them - they respond well to threats.
I'll practice on my 962 kit first, it looks a lot simpler.

Looking sharp, Patrick. That green and white Bandit paint always seems to suit any car they put it on. Reminds me of the Williams FW07 from way back.

These are not the official photos as I am waiting for the MicroSol to dry. I need to do about 5 minutes of trimming and the rear wing supports, but otherwise, I am ready to repair the T and get started on the T2. Did some major cleaning yesterday and am ready for another project! So here it is... 99 and 44/100% finished... Your comments are always welcome!

I prefer the Skoal livery to the Newman. The unofficial photos look great.

He uses a completely different printing process that seems to only respond to heat and profanity. Ben If that's the case, I've done a couple of rants that would probably work better than Solvaset
