I guess. If you'll never see it, why worry? I think I am going to give repairs a try since I need to learn something new on every build! I do the same. Especially if it's going to be covered later, it's good practice, lol.

Chris Smith, where have you gone? I have been busy at the shop! 😁 I also have been waiting on some epoxy paint. I am hoping to get some bench time in this weekend. I do appreciate the concern 😉

I do the same. Especially if it's going to be covered later, it's good practice, lol. Hey, Paul, any progress on the Lotus 72Ds? Were they salvageable? I used one of the rear wings to finish my 72 build, it was just easier to do a new one than strip the one I had. Other than that, they're still in the box. Salvageable? For sure, I could build 2 complete kits from them if I tried hard (well, one anyway!). I have 8 1/12th scale F1 kits to build, plus 2 bikes, so it'll be a while........ Your 2 Loti are destined to become an F5000 car, but that's a long term and down the road project. If I ever find a Matra kit thats realistically priced, I'll use one of the Cosworths to build Jackie Stewart's 69 winner, but I'm not paying $250.00 just so I can throw away a V12. And then there's these 1/24th sports cars.........I might live long enough!

I love following your builds, but my question is.....when will you build the one you got from me?!?! :-) Which one is that? The Matra or the P34? The Matra

I'm not paying $250.00 just so I can throw away a V12. Paul, just an FYI, the Matra kit comes with a stand to display the engine out of the car, so you could build it and display it alongside your Stewart Cosworth version to show what worked vs. what didn't! Patrick - Not sure why you keep having brittle plastic troubles. I have a few older Protar and Tamiya kits, I haven't noticed any difference in their plastic. You don't store your kits in a place with extreme temperatures, do you? The only plastic I don't like is the newer stuff that seems way too soft. Newer, more EPA-friendly formula, I guess. Give me that old stuff any day! Brian

Give me that old stuff any day! Brian Hi Brian! I bought this kit a few years back, not knowing there was a Tamiya kit for the same car. I thought it was a new kit but it shows some signs of previous ownership. The tub was warped and cracked and I am not sure if it the extreme cold/hot we have. I haven't experienced any other problems with any other kit. I even checked the T3 from Protar and it looks to be okay. My next three builds will all be Protar (T2, T3, and T5) so I know I need to go invest in a new set of teeny screwdrivers! It seems to be going together okay so I will just do the repairs needed and move on! Thanks for the words! Paul, if Sam hadn't called me out on building the Matra he sold me, I might have considered passing it on to you. I'm not sure what I paid for it but it sure wasn't $250... at least I hope it wasn't! LOL! Sam, did I pay $250? I don't remember... I am probably going to take it on after the Ferrari building craze is over... so next year, it is on the calendar!

I'll probably end up doing just that eventually, Brian. At the moment I have 2 Cosworth DFV's and a Ferrari flat 12 "left over", plus various others in smaller scale. Might build my own "engine shop"!

Well, I only had one day off this weekend, so just a bit of progress made. I realized that I had dislodged one of the pedals but it was located. I can get it back into place. And the red indicator "lights" are some button switches dipped into Tamiya Clear Red. Amazing what those two tiny elements add! I know I need to apply the Ferrari decal to the center of the wheel. I also need to find a very small "MOMO" decal and I wish I could find a very tiny "OFF" decal to put under the red button on the steering wheel as well. That actually should be a toggle switch but all the usual suspects are out of stock right now. Cracks? What cracks? BMF does a fine job... Final photo is a test fit of the underpiece for the naca ducts. In putting them in place, I have found another crack. But this one will take a bit of epoxy to repair. Anyway, this is progressing along... Also you can see that the replacement "arm" for the left front suspension is working well... that is actually the right angle from a sprue that was the correct diameter! Lucky find! Your comments are ALWAYS welcome!

Patrick, I'd say that the BMF sure did a great job on hiding those cracks. And as for your repair of the upper suspension rod, it sure does look like it was molded with the kit.

The BMF did it! I just need to add a little phlange to the suspension rod. I had been stumped by it until just this very second! I have all kinds of Plastruct tubing! I'll bet one of them is the correct diameter! Just a little slice and voila! Thanks for kickstarting my brain!

A little more progress... talk about working around a bunch of brittle pieces... I am amazed how many places just crack especially where you are putting in screws. Well here we go... Little bitty parts... And parts in place... Front suspension is done... Radiators in place... Your comments and criticisms are always welcome!

Looking good, I have to admit, if I was attempting this kit. I think I would throw it at a wall. And I thought old Tamiya kits were brittle. Anyway glad to see you have the patience to tackle this.. It’s going to be useful when you jump over to the dark side 😁
