(I would have posted this on the General board, but there was no "Create Thread" button there.)
My wife has a business that sells items through eBay. One of her customers wrote to tell her he had not received an item and that USPS tracking stated the item had not been mailed. My wife knew it had been. So, she went to the post office and asked about this. She was told that the Postmaster has ordered no packages to be scanned. No reason given.
So, apparently there no longer is a way to track our packages in the US postal system. We won't know if they've been mailed. We won't know if foreign packages have reached the US or cleared customs. They raise rates, complain they're losing business to the courier services, and then when postal traffic does go up (because of the pandemic keeping us at home), they refuse to do their job.

I haven’t experienced, and have been mailing items on almost a twice a week basis for the past two months.
I find it had to believe that they have shut down their very efficient tracking system.
Everything I have shipped has been tracked and reported as delivered with positive eBay feedback on all my sales there.

The Post Master they are referring to is probably their own, in charge of their office only, He most likely told hem not to scan to speed up their office, each Post Master has full control like that.I had a similar problem years back and when I complained online to the main Washington DC office it miraculously got fixed! One place I lived most of my monthly Car magazines and All my Model Mags were not being delivered, so I complained to the local Post Master who found some 6 months + of my magazines in the Employee Mens Restroom stashed! Thats the USPS for Ya! Chris

That's the local Postmaster, and I would complain to the Regional Office ASAP. I had a problem with an International wholesale shipment that merited a trip to my local PO. I have had a great relationship with the past Postmasters, but this one resembled a barking female dog. So, I drove the the Regional Postal Center and talked to her boss who fixed the problem ASAP. I also stopped bringing my packages to this post office (I average 50-75 per week) and took them to another one. With her mail count dropping and others experienced the same level of customer service, she was replaced within 3 months. Remember ,this is a customer based service and you do have options. I am fortunate to have 3 post offices within a 10 mile radius and even more 15 miles out. It is well worth a trip to a Regional Postal Center if you are having problems. So many experienced Postal Employees are retiring in droves right now, leaving few employees to choose from for promotion. Got to speak up, otherwise, you have to suffer with the problems that come with it.

The interesting thing I find here is that to determine a shipping cost, when my items are placed on the scale, they have to enter the address, along with the box dimensions, and then the postage is printed, with a tracking number assigned by the system.
How can a local post office bypass that process? Doesn't make sense to me, as it would seem like to do all this manually would actually slow the process.

Chris Chris, on the main "general board", there is no create thread button. At the bottom under info it says "you cannot create threads". Might be an admin only privilege.

Update on this. My wife went to a different post office with packages today and they did scan her scan sheet. Seems to only be a single post office not scanning.

What's troubling me is the prices being charged. I recently ordered decals from Indycals. They charged me $2.00 shipping. Here's the package, unopened:
Clearly marked, $1.41, so close enough, and thank you Michael. Colorado to Ontario, $1.41. So how come when one of you guys goes to the post office, they tell you it's $20.00? What do they do, make these numbers up and think it's a joke? Something is going on here.

Paul, My issue with the USPS is their screwy routing that at times literally makes no sense. Going to get worse not better here for the time being.

All I can tell you is that I sending the same package, one to a US address, the other to a Canadian address, and it was $8.00 and $27 respectively. Same day, same clerk, same scales.
