Nice start. Which kit is this? It is the AMT Lola T-88 which was the Mario Kmart car.

shunter,
Great start to an iconic kit for sure.
I've got 3 or 4 of the AMT Indy car kits including the T-88 on my stash including Indy Cal decals for all of them. The reason for not building them is that I've never really understood how one cuts off the front suspension and then pins it so that it fits correctly after the painting and decaling. The few build threads I found about doing it had the pictures removed by Photobucket. Could you please explain the procedure, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I usually cut the suspension arms off while the tubs are in two parts, I then join them and drill the holes through while it is still easy to see where they were. Then it’s full and sand and repeat as long as it takes. If you zoom in on the first picture you can see the bottom two holes, I made it hard with this one as I forgot to drill the top holes, I had to measure these up and drill well after I had primed.

Shunter, I did see only the two bottom holes and wondered why. My worry is that I don't exactly align the metal pins in the suspension arms to the correct spots on the body. Maybe I should mark them before removal as a duel guide. And what do you use for those pins?

I have that kit, already built from years back. I was planning on turning it into a Mackenzie car (I have the decals). I watch with interest, lol.

Looking good, Shayne!
Joel, I just yesterday cut the suspension off of a Revell Reynard. I drill the holes before I do any cleaning up of the body, while the scars are still visible. I drill and pin the suspension parts first, and then try to drill close to the same position inside the scars. I use a slightly larger bit for the holes in the body, to give me a little leeway in the positioning. I'd post pics, but I've already cleaned up the body, so only the holes are visible, and (hopefully) none of the scars where the suspension was previously attached.

Ben Ben, You guys are giving me the confidence to finally start my 1st AMT Indy Car build. I'm already thinking about buying more of them. Maybe I should actually get one or two done 1st. Joel

Shunter, Now that's progress for sure. Looks fantastic. Can't wait to see some paint on. Yeah, I know that you have to wait for the right weather conditions. A real Bummer for sure.

Looking good! I've also heard yellow is a good base for red to pop. But I haven't seen yellow primer.
