Mike, If I had your skills and wanted to build an indycar, I'd try a Watson. Just a thought.

@articwolf. Hi Paul, which car would this one be, maker? I'd really like to have a look at one.
A while back the Indy car forum here had a frontpage header photo of one from the 60s, I believe it was a Dan Guerney (sp.?) car.??
Thanks for the info..Mike..

You're welcome, I just thought the space frame and other bits might be up your alley.
I'd love to see you build one out of brass.

Mike, Honestly, if you didn't point out the slight over size, no one would have known for sure. In scale it doesn't seem to matter much. Besides, I'm betting that you'll be adding many if not of all those lines which will cover up the ends of the pulley assembly/bar.

@joel, true, the parts will be mostly covered up, but already I've had assembly difficulties with the idler wheel placement. The bar was just not correct.
So, I asked Roger Lee for photos of the bar without pulley...so I got a plan diagram with measurements!
Here the new setup, correct scale. This time, aluminum plate with stainless steel spacer tubes. Also, there's room to move the idler pulley sideways for belt mounting preferences.
Old bar in brass,
New, in aluminum plate, correct scale and dimensions;
I do think the Comp Resins idler pulley is too large. I'll make a slimmer unit using aluminum tube with flanges, this will look a lot better on the motor.

UPDATE: Clutch can and others
The resin clutch can looked OK but was scale-wise a little puny. A new one in brass along with a new firewall/motor plate, this one is thicker and closer to scale.
Also, the steering assembly is done, just need to add a delta style steering handle, yet to be made. Clutch and go-pedal also done.
2 bolted covers will be added to the can along with a dust exhaust and leverage arm. Still stuff to do with thus unit.

This is other worldly. I have no words to describe the skill and attention to detail you've shown. You've set the bar for this type of building. Having a soft spot in my heart for front engine dragsters I'm really enjoying this.

Mike, As usual. your added details are just simply amazing, as is your focus on always the correct scale.

Thanks guys for the support, much appreciated. 2lapsdown, John I too really like these old FEDs, simple and unique.
UPDATE: Clutch can is attached and mounted. Although the dull silver paint looks OK, I'm thinking maybe just strip all the paint, shine up the brass can a bit and spray Tamiya Clear Red over the brass which lets the metal look anodized....hmm, might be interesting and a different look for a model.
More bolts are ordered so the process can be finished.
The chassis has been prepped for painting. Tendency is either gold like this one;
or, depending on the still undecided body color, bright blue. Gloss black is just too common and I feel there should be other ways forward. I've abandoned following the exact Roger Lee car as several issues have let me realize the model would never under any circumstances be right in some folks' eyes and am pressed to discontinue the nitpicking. I'll continue this project my way.
Another body color possibly would be a clean Candy Apple Red, like this one;
Gold chassis and candy red....

I couldn't wait.
The silver paint has been stripped off, bare brass, ready for Tamiya Clear Red....
Soon....

Mike, The Clutch can looks fantastic. Looking forward to seeing it all prettied up in Tamiya Clear Red. As for the Chassis color, the bright Gloss Blue and Red Clutch can should really make one hell of a bold statement for sure.

UPDATE: The car has a seat, but what a pita. I've never made a brass seat, only aluminum. This one is soldered in and not perfect, the butt area is too narrow, this will get lost when the upholstery is added, so I'll take it as is.
Here the current stand of things. However, not shown are go pedal and clutch pedal with linkages, they're done.
Next up is the steering handle. Maybe wooden grips, yet to be. This may be the last interior unit. At the moment, only the fuel tank and front end lead plates left to do..... Then finally the motor!
