Another Lola to add to the forum's collection. I've wanted to build this for a long time, I've had the decal sheets for a while, both 1/25th and 1/20th. I wanted the 1/20th Tamiya kit but balked at the prices, but I got a fair deal - thanks Brian! - so I started it pretty much the day it arrived. It's one of Scott Goodyear's MacKenzie sponsored cars, I love the blue and silver paint scheme. The Lola always reminded me of a jet fighter, it should have missiles hanging off it. While the painting was taking it's time, I built that Porsche and did some work on the Lola engine and transaxle assembly. Basically stock, a little wiring added so far:
It's not bad for a snap lok kit, and yes it is glued together. I can always add the missing bits that might be seen.

I'm taking a little artistic license with this one. I wanted a lot more sparkle than the 1:1 car, so this is my version of what it should have looked like, loosely based on the Toronto Indy car. I've gone with TS30 Silver and TS89 Pearl Blue (mainly because its my favorite colour). Or maybe I'm just into S&M. The blue is very transparent, it needs a base coat. So, logically I sprayed the tub Nato Black, masked off the "unpainted" areas, and sprayed the silver leaf over it. The decals from Indycals came with masks for the silver, so I applied the masks and painted the blue. 5 coats to get the right colour! I should have known. The silver marks very easily, and once I removed the masks, no way could I clean that up. I should have taken a photo. So I stripped it all off. Attempt number two, paint it black, then silver, then a clear coat, let cure. Paint the whole thing blue, 5 coats again. Then another clear coat, let it cure. Very nice all blue car at this stage. Then I masked off the blue and sprayed 2 coats of silver, then a clear coat, let that cure. It worked, this is what I've got, and it can be handled!
Definately the most complicated paint job I've ever attempted, lol. Now I can get on with building this thing.
cheers guys Paul

An update. Some progress, this kit does go together nicely. Had some fun with the decals. My 1/25th sheet is different to the 1/20th, as I found out that Indycals for some obscure reason didn't include the numbers on the 1/20th sheet, but they do now? So I ordered decal sheet number 3. At least I have spares in case I mess up. Maybe I'll build a whole fleet of Mackenzie somethings. Not much extra detail added so far, except I installed the missing water and hydraulic pumps, you can sort of see them so why not:
Now to figure out how to add the plumbing and accessories that you would see.
cheers Paul

Thanks guys. Almost done, just waiting for the clear to cure on the engine bodywork. Added the cooling lines and the electrical boxes, it just looked dumb without them. Also the air jack coupling but you can barely see it. Very easy, straightforward kit to build, everything fits perfectly. Only complaint is the halo around the decals shows up against the satin black - not as bad as in the photos, but I know its there. Not much I can do about it. Other than that I'm happy enough so far:
I'll try to post some finished pics tomorrow.
Now I think its time to pick a 1/12th car to play with. Hmmm.......

Very nice, Paul! I've got the Indycals for that one, maybe this winter.

It's all done. No, I didn't forget the mirrors. It's physically impossible to remove the engine cowling without removing or breaking off the mirrors first, so I left them off for the moment. I don't think they'd stand too many snap in and out moments. Other than that, nice kit to work with, I wish they'd made more than one of them. Light years ahead of the AMT kits. Here she is:
Thanks for tuning in.
