Excellent progress again, Paul! Do you think the clear pats of the Ferodo decals will discolor? I've seen some Tamiya decals turn brown as they age. You might want to scotch tape them off and replace them when your Indycals arrive!
I feel your pain on hiding all that engine detail! If I could bring myself to be less anal about painting absolutely everything on my models (you know, the stuff that nobody will ever see!), I'd probably cut my project time in half! I justify it by saying "I know it's there", which doesn't make a lot of sense when one of the main reasons I don't finish much is that I have limited modeling time, seems stupid (in the stark light of day) to waste time on things that are never seen again! I'll get over it eventually, I think!

I'll get over it eventually, I think! Brian Thanks Brian. I don't know about the decals, they will or they won't I guess. Either way, they have 3 coats of clear over them so they won't be coming off, that's for sure. I had to install those fairings or progress would have stalled. They need to be in place to insure the bodywork lines up properly, and without that I couldn't align the rest of the bits, etc. This kits a bit vague on where some things should end up, trash the instructions and reverse engineer it if you ever build one. But, so far its working out. Come to think of it, that's how I build most of my stuff these days! I think one of the benefits of joining this site is that I feel more motivated to take photos as I go, which makes me be even more obsessed with getting the details right. So even though nobody will ever see some of it, at least I have photographic proof that it's there.
I do have a desire to build some of my stuff in duplicate. This Renault, my Watson, a few others - so I could have a complete car and a stripped chassis sitting side by side. And a few engines on stands might be cool. If I live long enough, lol.
cheers mate

Paul, The clear coating will help protect the decals from yellowing. But keeping any model/decals out of direct sunlight is the most important step of all.
Great idea about duel builds. I guess that the easiest way to accomplish that is to start doing duel builds.

Hi guys. The turbos just hang in mid air with no reference points. I temporarily installed the floor so that I could tape the turbo in place, then build the connections:
And then removed the floor. These bits were ca'd just to make sure they didn't move. Turbos installed:
The exhausts were not fun, Quebecois Francais was required. Next up the rear spring setup, just annoying because its spring loaded, lol:
More to come.

Here's the oil tank and transaxle installed, I hope its straight!
It's all pretty solid once its together and the glue sets:
As usual, you can barely even see the springs. This is where I'm at, figured I should go back and add the bits I left off and get some wiring started while I still can.
What looks like a fire extinquisher is really a pressure tank for the air starter. Apparently the engineers thought they were building a Kenworth. Still need to build the rear suspension and then maybe I can put the floor pan on. The way things are going, the car will be built but the body shop is way behind, I just got the decals today, so lots of paint and detailing still to do there. Thats ok, the body attaches with 4 screws after evething is complete anyway.
Thanks for looking.

Coming along nicely! Looks a bit more complex than most of Tamiya's 1/12 stuff. You're handling it well, instructions be damned! The extra detailing is really going to pop, well worth the extra effort!

Well done, looking excellent. Get those fine details in and you won’t second guess your self, plus it will pop! Looking forward on your next update.

Paul, Truly outstanding technical work in what looks like a truly complicated assembly process. Your detail wiring both electrical and tubing continues to add so much to the build.
Just one question. Both Turbos are attached to the exhaust header and then to what I think is an exhaust for the hot gases. So will they also be attached to the sidewalls once they're installed?

Joel Joel, the things on the sides of the car are the intakes, the exhausts exit upwards beside the oil tank. I'll post some closer pics once I get the tailpipes on.
And thanks for the kind words of encouragement everyone.

Paul, great idea using the floor to locate the position of the turbos. If I ever get to mine, I'll have to remember that.

A little bit done. The floor is attached to the chassis (4 screws). After careful consideration, it's also glued, in more places than Tamiya bargained for. Now its solid. Some wiring added and cleaned up a bit:
The turbos are glued to the sidepods just to add strength as it was flexing a bit too much. Joel, here you can see where the air intakes to the turbos line up:
Tamiya gives a very accurate depiction of how the sliding skirts work on the car (yes, they slide!). The movable part is captured between the side pod and the outer skin:
It's a bit tricky to glue without getting it stuck where you don't want it to. Apparently the builders wanted everyone to know it was a Renault, in case anybody missed the program. Indycals decals at this point.
The intake plenum actually fit easier than I expected. Still lots of details to be added, some kit, a whole lot they somehow left out - mostly hydraulic lines, but I'm plodding along. Bodywork is still way behind schedule.
Later guys.

Paul, Amazing work for sure. That 1st overhead shot really shows off all your added detail lines, hoses, as well as your detail painting. As for those side skirts, not sure why Tamiya would make them adjustable, but it's a great feature idea just the same.
