I had an AMT 69 Cougar kit I was going to use as a base for the 68, but the AMT is so inaccurate I used the Monogram instead. But I thought why not build the 69 just as an OOB pure stock Cougar, something quick and easy for instant gratification. Yeah sure. I built the car, some detailing, not too crazy, and then experimented with the paint job. Short version, it was cheaper and easier to buy another kit than try to strip whatever concoction of paints I'd come up with. Back in the box it all went. Well, the Ligier is pissing me off, so having acquired another Cougar kit on the cheap..............
It's the exact opposite of Mike's beautiful Brandywine dragster - orange paint to represent 1969 from the showroom floor. Other than some seat belts, wiring and fuel lines it's OOB pure stock - 1969 Boss 302 Cougar Eliminator:
Nice day so I shot it outside. Besides, the colour is more accurate in daylight
The hood fit is probably as accurate as the real car was.

A comparison of the engine bays shows why I prefer the Monogram kits. The Monogram chassis in the 68 looks like a Ford, the AMT 69 looks like a .........I dunno, maybe a bit GM?
Undersides a bit better
And with it's older brother
I don't know what's next, back to the Ligier
maybe a sprint car, a midget something off the wall
cheers Paul

Nice work Paul. I have a few Cougars in the stash, hope to tackle them some day.

Paul, I just re-read the entire build blog and enjoyed every post in it. Love the 69 as it's the slightly big brother to my 70 302 Mustang hatchback. Mostly stock but still could hold its own. Your two Mercs really do bring back some great memories.
Now get back to the Ligier and work your magic at the bench.
