Since there is no MS10 kit and I acquired this lot, why buy a new Ebbro kit just to chop it up and use half of it? I got this from Perry (minus the coffee table), just as you see it. I have spare Cosworths, so I'll take a crack at Jackie's 68 car.
Long term project and it may never work, but no harm in trying. So far I have done some research and stared at this a lot:

Paul, I'm really looking forward to following your adventure as this is a 1st of it's kind I can recall seeing. This is one of the many reasons I love this site so much.

very nice job indeed but slightly off in some regards.
I was planning on making mine wingless, we'll see.
Whatever, long term project i feel.

Paul, That Matra really is super detailed. Tamiya only made one in 1/12 scale and that was years ago. I'm pretty sure that Heller kitted a Matra. Googled it, but all I could find out is that it was a MS11 F2 car. Maybe MFH is the model source.

I've been working on the tub. I cut off the pontoon extensions, cut out most of the battery compartment, filled in the holes in the floor and generally tried to clean it up as best I could. The Stewart car had a double rear bulkhead creating a bigger fuel cell - I guess since the Cosworth is shorter than the V12 they put the extra space to good use. Also the roll bar is different, lots of detail changes I never realized until I stared closely (one should not do that!!!). So some fabricating from sheet styrene and CA gap filler. I got this:
I'm going to run out of Tamiya putty at this rate. More to follow.

I left part of the battery compartment in the front footwell, more for structural integrity than anything. You won't see it when we're done. It looks scruffy but a little tlc works wonders:
Some sanding, filling, priming, more sanding, and a couple of coats of French Blue:
Looks almost presentable!

I painted the top half of the tub and then assembled them. I can do this as with the battery compartment removed, I can access the footwell to install the lower front wishbones any time later, my preferred way to do things. I then did the many needed touchups and a top coat of blue - no clear yet. I think it's starting to look like a reasonable facsimile of a Matra monocoque:
There is a scar on the bottom I could have filled and fixed, but I'll be making a seat later that will cover it:
And just for fun, lined up with one of the Cosworths that Patrick was kind enough to donate (Lotus 72 type, but I can fix that):
The motor will be partially dismantled for painting and then re-assembled, I'm going to be missing the triangles that connect the cam covers to the tub. I don't think I have any. But that's down the road, I'm sure I'm missing lots more (like two rear axles for starters). But, it's fun to try to make something out of notmuch!
cheers guys
Paul

Good to see the donation motor!
So, is this a Tamiya kit someone donated to you? I am not sure on the specs and, as I have one of the Tamiya Matra 1/12ths to build next (I am not sure of the year that is depicted in the Tamiya kit), will I need to make these same mods?

I am not sure on the specs and, as I have one of the Tamiya Matra 1/12ths to build next (I am not sure of the year that is depicted in the Tamiya kit), will I need to make these same mods? Oh, I have plans for your stuff my friend.
I traded some 1/20th kits for a mixed batch of 1/12th scrambled parts. Yes, I am nuts. Most of a dismantled Matra kit was in the box.
No, you don't have to make any of these mods if you're building a Matra MS11. The kit from Tamiya (or Ebbro) is for a 68, but it's not race accurate. Micheal at Indycals figures it matches the 68 German GP best - he has decals for it, JP Beltois - he's probably right. The car changed for every race, so pick your poison. Also, like all the teams, the wings changed from one practice session to the next.
Because what I have is an old used bag of bits, I decided to build the MS10. Jackie Stewart's Cosworth engined car (68 Dutch GP), which is more different than I bargained for, lol. Hence all the mods I'm making. But I have spare Cosworths so why not give it a shot?
I'm missing some parts, so I may be forced to buy a new Matra kit so I can make some resin clones for this build - see how things snowball when you're not looking! But I'm not there yet, still working on the basics.

Paul, Your build is really capturing my attention for sure. Just love your explanations of the why's for the mods as you proceed through the build.
Patrick, I'm also looking forward to your build as the focus will be on more of the kit version but built to your high standards.
