I don't have many consecutive hours to paint, but I need to make the time to break out a paint target and brush up on my camouflaging skills. I'm regaining my technique with the Vietnam Southeast Asia camouflage scheme, but the faded gray schemes still elude me. Fortunately, with all of these car builds I've been doing, airliners will be a snap, now! Ben That's what I ended up having to do as well but watching some of the different painting and weathering methods on youtube and those on different forums was highly beneficial to me because I was stuck in my own methods for getting painting process completed. I will say that automotive modeling has helped my painting skills alot as well.....especially those with gloss paint jobs as you mentioned with the airliners. Before my hiatus I was right in the middle of my coveted Arado 234 build. I had been wanting to build this kit for years and the Hasegawa offering is still the best one out there in 1/48 scale. It is , however, very difficult to build and get to look right from a construction point of view. Very weird assembly at the nose section. BUT.....two years ago when I made it back around to it, I had newer painting skills (as well as the bodywork skillset that I've acquired through automotive modeling) that allowed me finish this technological wonder.

Gotta say that you're Arado 234 build sure looks fantastic. The open engine just grabbed my eyes as it looks super detailed.
After I finish the Ford Mustang GT4 build, I'm taking a break and switching gears to a few Salvino Jr. Nascar kits from the 1980s and 1992 era. Going to be basically OOB as finding detailed builds and information is a lot harder then I thought it would be.

Love your Arado! It and the He 162 are my favorite German airplanes. I just ordered some canopy masks for my Hasegawa kit in preparation for starting it. I still have the old War Eagle/Hobbycraft kit in my display case.
Back in the ‘80s, my future wife was in grad school at Georgetown, and I’d drive my MGB up there to visit her every other weekend (I was working in NC). When she was busy in the lab, I’d head over to the Garber Facility where they were restoring the last surviving Ar 234. I got to watch it progress over about 3 years. It was really cool, because you could stand there and talk to the guys doing the restoration. Another guy was working on the Japanese Seiran float plane and showed us how the horizontal stabilizers folded up, among other things; something you’ll never see now that it’s at Udvar Hazy. I miss the Garber Facility.
Joel, you guys keep building these NASCAR kits and I’m going to have to try one!

Once I got past the construction blues and all those dang rivets on the gondola it was a pretty fun build. I'm with Ben on those NASCAR builds. I've got a 1990's C1500 Goodwrench NASCAR truck that I may end up building.

I would've loved to have seen some of that in action with the Arado. Beauty of an aircraft.

And, of course, I rarely thought to bring a camera. I'll dig around and see if I still have any photos from back then. They also had the forward fuselage of Enola Gay there. They were testing some kind of protective coating on the nose and encouraged people to touch it. Damn right I touched that airplane!

Both my Salvino jr, models arrived right on time yesterday. Just the Tim Richmond 1982 Old Milwaukee Pontian LeMans will be built next. After that I've just gotta get one of my 1/20 scale F1 cars built from years past as those are the cars that most interest me.

I applied the gloss coat on the top side yesterday using Vallejo's Acrylic Gloss. Dunno what it is about acrylic glosses but it was fairly difficult for me to apply (probably because I thinned to down too much) and it puddled in a few areas on the starboard wing. Gimme some lacquer based clear and I can work wonders with it but this stuff is like me trying to speak a foreign language! Anyhow.....I sanded the irregularities out of the gloss , touched up some paint where I burned through in the sanding process and re-applied the gloss this morning. Cals are coming up next......

Been goin' on with the cals for the last few days. Those #3's are giving me a little static but other than that everything else is working out. NOTE....Do NOT EVER buy decals from Peddinghaus. OMG they're bad. I only used the big 3's and the tail numbers out of the whole set. Just terrible in terms of out of scale lettering and walkway red dash sizes. It was like there was little to no research on them. For the rest of the decals I used the EagleCals set that I started out with on this one before I decided to build White 3.

Looking good! I’ve seen a lot of negative comments about decals from Peddinghaus. I had their F-4F set, but never used it. There were enough issues with the artwork that I planned to mostly use the crappy kit decals. I quickly sold that sheet when Caracal released theirs.

Good call on getting rid of the decals. I just couldn't believe how out of scale some of the cals were.

Mustang1989, Your Me 262 is looking darn good to me. As for the acrylic gloss clear, I've never had any luck with any of the true acrylics air brushing them. Like you, I'm a lacquer or Acrylic Lacquer kind of guy.

A bit more with the decals topside.... and a coat of blue on the bottom side with some cals applied. Went with a friends advice and applied a light colored wash on this and then gradually worked my way to darker washes on the sides and then a dark wash topside.
