Joe, The decaling is looking GREAT. the 1st steps of your weathering is already transforming the stock look to one of a well maintained operational aircraft.
As for not being around due to more important issues, believe me I only know that all to well. While around most days, I haven't had any real time to model in the last month or so. Hope to actually do some painting today and get back into it a little more before my surgeries at the end of the month.

Thanks Joel and Ben!! I managed to get the dull coat applied. Got some subtle weathering, soot signatures from the guns and some silvering to do around the access panels and the painting / weathering process will be done. Then its off to landing gear, canopy and finishing bits....

Still got the canopy to paint and install, gun bay panels to open up, aerial antennae and last little details to install. She's now on her legs.

Outstanding! The mottling looks great. I've always liked the RLM 74/75/76 gray camouflage scheme on the 262.

Fortunately I didn't have to strip any paint. I just started over on both sides and brought the mottle pattern a little higher. I'll have to say that it's definitely a different scheme than is normally seen on these birds. Such a beautiful aircraft so I just HAD to have one in my display case.

Joe, Now that's one impressive Me 262A-1. Love all the detail painting and weathering everywhere that I looked. Just as impressive as the Mottling scheme which really matches that picture. I'd say it's 6 months of building time well worth it.
I've built nothing but race cars for several years, but I'm getting the urge to try something totally different sooner then later.

Thank you all for the great comments. I get the hankerin' from time to time to build an aircraft and when I do.....it always seems to be a Luftwaffe bird. I love my Mustangs, Corsairs and Hellcats and all but there was just something so dang cool about the lines of alot of the "bad guys" aircraft....not to mention the crazy camo schemes.

If you do decide to take on an aircraft build, start with single or simple schemes. It's very easy to get overwhelmed with some of these mottle patterns. I'd be happy to show you my processes on pre-shading and warble patterns prior to laying paint down as well as some simple weathering techniques. Not trying to discourage you or second guess your abilities as you turn out some exceptional work Joel. I have my own experience to draw from. I think I chose about the most difficult scheme that I could've when I tried my first aircraft build getting back into this hobby. Somehow.....I managed but.....given a second chance with todays skills I know I could do better. and my attempt. I really wished I would've practiced more before tackling this but it turned out okay for my abilities at the time. These pictures were taken some time ago and I really need to get some updated shots of this bird with my newer camera but here goes anyways.......
