Hi Joel, Thanks for the support, it's not affected the decals luckily, so I plan to mask them and gently sand the defects. Wish me luck, I'll report back.

Dave, Glad to read that you lucked on the decals area not being affected. Looking forward to your next update with the results of the sanding & surface prep for another application of Clear Gloss.

That’s too bad about the clear coat. I hope you’re able to save it without too much difficulty.

Well, life has been hectic lately, work and jobs around the house so time on the car has been limited. The clearcoat disaster sapped the enthusiasm but after having a review of the problem it didn't seem quite so bad, being limited mainly to the roof with some defects on the top of the front wheel arch extensions. So I masked up the stripes and entombed the body in a plastic bag then sanded back. After respraying then clearing again with another product it looks better, nowhere near perfect but if I want to finish this sucker then I'm going to have to compromise. This view shows the chrome paint I used on the window trim, the roof will get a final 6000 grit buff then polished. The Group 5 car had door quarter lights and wind up windows so these needed to be made as the kit doesn't include them (maybe rufty tufty IMSA racers don't mind the breeze). I started with a paper template of the door opening then bent a copper wire to form the frame to the pattern, inserted into holes drilled in the doors. The frames have a square section so this was built up with plastic strip and filler. They need painting and the quarter lights and window glass will be added towards the end of the build. I plan on showing an open quarter light and slightly lowered door glass on the drivers side. As well as these travails the main screens were very badly glue marked, more so than I remembered from when I first bought the model so I have spent quite a few evenings sanding, polishing, applying Kleer, stripping, sanding, polishing...... You get the picture. I think I've got them as good as I can and they'll go into the shell soon and that will be my next update. Dave

Dave, Great save on the clearcoat.
I'm really impressed with the scratched out frame for what you're calling a quarter light. Been a long time since I saw one of them. My parents use to flick their cigarette ashes out the window that way. that way the ash didn't end up in the back with us when they used their side windows.
Nice job with the chrome paint, as it' looks like chrome, not silver which has been my usual practice of late.

Fantastic job and great choice of colour scheme. One of the kits that has always eluded me. Looking forward to the P34 as I do have that one in the stash and I'm sure you'll do it justice!

Dave, Congrats on crossing the finish line with your Bimmer. She turned out great. The engine and trunk details are amazing as is the interior. Just eye popping "candy" every where I look. It's been a real joy following along from start to finish. I enjoyed every post and update of it.
Looking forward to your 1/12 scale Peterson P34 build for sure.

Did you already buy a Tyrrell P34? I have one in my pile that I would like to be gone... it has the PE and the plastic is still intact, I believe.

Hi Patrick, yes, I bought it some time ago but thanks for the kind offer, the postage from the States would probably have made it a non starter anyway. I have been building up my stash by buying on eBay with a price ceiling of £60 per kit, that's about $84, which was fine and dandy before the pandemic and very doable. Now you can't get anything under £100 ($140) and most kits are upwards from there. So I'm glad I started when I did, otherwise I would be seriously disappointed, mind you it means that an MFH 1/12 kit is stratospheric in cost in comparison for me but I am a cheapskate! I just need an Italeri/Protar Alfa 179 and if I'm brave the Heller Ligier JS11 to complete the set. I have a stash of part built models so my modify/scratch plans include a 1976 Brabham Alfa BT45 and a Penske PC4. Dave

Just traded away the JS11 to Arctic Wolf for another GT40MKII. Good luck!

Patrick, Just wondering if you were going to be changing your model build philosophy. You must know how much I enjoy following your builds both for the build and for the tips and tricks.
