Progress! I still have to add the seat belts and the rest of the suspension and put some laps on the tires. Hopefully, I'll get the decals on it this week. Hasegawa Sauber Mercedes C9 is also waiting for decals. Ben This looks wonderful. And you've nailed the seat upholstery.

This looks wonderful. And you've nailed the seat upholstery. Thanks! I can’t take credit for the seats. They were purely an accident. I sprayed the red over black paint and it looked pretty good so I ran with it. Bob Ross would call it, “A happy little accident!” Ben

But you must take credit for it. You knew it when you saw it, and you knew when to stop!

Ben, Don't know how I missed your Curbside 330 P4 build. Your paint job is simply spectacular. Wow !! I built mine as a curbside kit as well, added the fender mirrors as I just didn't know any better. Used Indy Cal decals but the red body color bleed right through the white number circles. Never had that issue since then, but never had another red car do decal either.

Thanks, Joel!
Your 330 is beautiful! I went through your build thread a couple of times before I started mine. I've started applying the decals and I'm getting bleed through, too. Because red is such a difficult color to cover, it would have been nice if he had provided a set of blank white circles to go under the number decals. This has been an enjoyable kit to build!

Just wanted to share something with you. I painted these Halibrands with Tamiya Titanium Gold then applied a brown wash - thought they turned out pretty good. It toned down the gold a little and added some depth. You are a far more skilled painter than I Ben so I'm sure your wheels will look great.

JC, That brownish wash does really add depth to those wheels. Gotta try that myself on the Porsche 911 when I get that far.

Looks great! What'd you paint the wheels with?

Mine will just be the brass color that came in the box. It turns out that Metalizer Brass is almost a perfect match, so I used that to paint the spare rim and the interiors of the others. Ben

Ben When you say "he had provided", are you talking about Michael at IndyCals? If so, he makes no bones that red can and will "bleed through" because of the intensity. Further, if they are IndyCals and you have that problem, he will send you a second set of the roundels to do an overlay. It happened to me on my 1/12th Ferrari 312B. He sent a second set for free. If it wasn't IndyCals, then I would write to the decal manufacturer to tell them of the issue. White over red and yellow over anything seem to be problems. I can also imagine white decals over a yellow finish such as one of the 1966 LeMans GT40 entries would be problematic!

Ben & Patrick, Never thought I reaching out to Michael @ Indy Cals for a 2nd set of roundels. Every time I look at my build, that bleed through really becomes even more of an issue. Since there's several gloss clear on top of the decals, there's no option of just removing those decals, buying a new sheet and asking for a 2nd set of roundels. Live and learn surely applies here.

I had to double up the Indycals decals on my Tamiya Mustang because the fluorescent yellow bled through even the dark grey decals. I should have ordered a second set for the Ferrari, but I’m just going to live with the pinkish roundels. Like Patrick says, the reason we get this bleed through is due to the printing process he uses. I’ll probably just order a second sheet any time I have to apply the decals over red or yellow. Michael’s decals are VERY reasonably priced compared to what screen printed decals go for, so the cost won’t hurt too much.

There are two sets of decals laid one over the other. Like yourself, I have never asked Michael to honour his "oops" policy - I just order another set. He's a nice guy and I want him to stay in business!

for the roundels, I'm thinking that just masking and painting one as a viable option, but it really doesn't take care of other white or lightly colored decals. this just might be the correct time to try Tamiya, Fujimi, & other thicker kit decals as an option.
And Paul, that Lotus 49b came out great.
