Afternoon Fellows, I chopped the back deck from an AMT '62 Vette just now and put it under another project a '62 with a '63 Stingray roof done by GM styling before the production '63 came out to see about converting an Accurate Miniatures GS Coupe into a Roadster. Besides the five (or six) GS coupes it is the only fastback with a trunk opening. Also shown is my long time work in progress '62 Lightweight "Mule" with a '63 nose and tube frame and 360 hp FI motor w/aluminum heads. This IMO is the "First GS", tested at Daytona in mid 1962 by Duntov and Mickey Thompson crewing. The '62 and '63 "Graft" was extremely crude and the bodywork is "rough" to say the least. The '62 is wider and the windshield and removable top are narrower than the '63 so a lot of chopping was made. It will never be a "pretty" model but does show the Factory cobbling cars together.

I believe that these are 1962 tests at Daytona (Mickey Thompson's crew) and The FIRST "Official" Lightweight tests at Sebring with Roger Penske and Masten Gregory. Sebring had the "Water Tower". Lots of GM testing at these times and locations 1962, makes me wonder how much Mickey Thompson was involved in "On-Track" development of the "Lightweight" vs Penske and Dr. Dick Thompson. Penske was heavily involved in getting Alcoa Aluminum (whom he worked for) in casting aluminum small block Chevy's. How many went to Jim Hall, Mickey Thompson, Penske and others is open for conjecture but I've read that the molds were changed due to casting differences between iron and aluminum and Halls engines were ONLY 318 C.I. .

Morning Fellows, Grafted the cut out AMT '62 convertible deck and grafted it on the cut out AM coupe body. Lots of grinding and shaping. Not TOO Bad IMHO will take a lot of sanding and underside reinforcing but should come out OK. I'd love to do the Notre Dame show car but may do the white #91 Elvis "Spin Out" movie GS roadster but can only come up with two photos, I like the slots cut below the air flow exits and appears to have a modified '63/'64 hood and a dual injected small block. Can anyone provide more history on this car? It did run at a West Coast race but I lost the photo.

Yes, I have over 400 mint Vinyl albums, mostly 60's - 70's Rock and Roll, Jazz, Fusion and Electronic. For College I went to California Institute of the Arts in Valencia Ca. originally as a Commercial Art major but after my first year I changed my major to "Electronic Music" under Morton Subotnik, there I studied Studio recording, Synthesizers, Electronic Music and everything about studio work. The 64 Track studio there was massive, it was the one where Disney's " Fantasia" was Recorded and Mastered. A few years back I decided I dint need the Vinyl albums required by Subotnik and took them to a used album store. The first one they gave me $1500. for it! (Surprise), I still have the rest. I checked all my Rock albums and their condition I exchanged the one for everything I had that was worn or for parts of Artists catalogs I didnt have and got Mint, Sealed, New replacement albums! It upgraded my collection immensely. I use a Hitachi HT-55 Linear Turntable with a Grado Gold Cartridge through a Yamaha Natural Sound 5 channel amp and the appropriate, Sony Surround Sound 6 Speakers and a big Sub woofer, also 2 Laser controlled JVC twin Tape Cassette decks just to back them up. I mix the sound through a Yamaha 12 Channel mixer for that fresh recorded sound.. Naw, I dont just collect Vinyl.......Lol ! Chris

Chris, You just continue to amaze me. That's some setup you have, although I don't know what a good deal of the equipment is used for. I grew up with Hi Fi, then switched over to Stereo in college. Just had a turn table, amp, and receiver. Honestly, I don't recall any of the names as I did upgrade a twice we I got married. My collection of LPs over the years showed the abuse they got, especially the jackets. Unfortunately, I lost all my records I had in storage at the house when we had the fire.

Chris Worst decision I ever made was to jettison my vinyl (good and bad) to a store in Bakersfield... but I had lugged them from Idaho to Texas to three places in California and in a picque of anger, got rid of them. Bad Patrick... bad.

I owned a house in Bakersfield, well off Rosedale Hwy in "Green Acres" Lol I should have kept it since I inherited it and it was paid in full, after my Grandfather gave up Gold Mining in Ridgecrest in the early 1900's he moved to Bakersfield and founded the "Saint Vincent DePaul" off old Union st. I moved back from So Cal in 73 and lived there for several years had a rip roaring time... until I moved in 77.... Chris

I had a somewhat well used vinyl smallish collection that grew little by little since my jr year of HS (1964) when I started to buy 45's and Albums. Early albums were actually Hi Fi as Stereo was just becoming affordable for us Teens, and much of the Rock N Roll albums of the late 50s-mid 60s were just in Hi fi. I had about 100 albums stored in our basement as I was just buying CDs when they became popular. Unfortunately, they all were destroyed in the house fire about 25 years ago. Back then it never occurred to me to have a serious conversation with the insurance adjusters about their value as no even brought it up.

Good Afternoon Fellows, Been working on completing a series (4) of Accurate Miniatures and Carrera Slot Car body Grand Sports. I'm doing four at once and found the simplest way is to complete the unpainted chassis and attaching parts BEFORE you paint it flat black then light gloss black, touching up the differential and uprights in silver/metal. Many of the holes are too small and paint fills them up or you gotta scrape off the paint. The front suspension is hard to do, had to open up the kingpin locating hole or just cut off the pins and drill out with small upper/lower pins. I think the old MPC 64-67 Sting Ray front suspension was the way to go, pretty tough too. Onto the interiors, pretty simple just painting sections and assemblies BUT I did add chrome strips on the lower door sills (almost invisible with the inner doors shut but they're there). Relocated the battery on 3 GS's to under the spare but left one in original right front frame mount, don't how many had it moved there (which is extremely hard to paint the Halibrand wheel)! Used the smaller chrome strips for the seat back cutouts on the rear deck where the deck joins seat cutouts. Will do this for my Ferrari 250Ps thru 365 Ps interior. UltraCal makes a great stick on sheet of various chrome strips, grills, screens, screened holes and surfaces. Tomorrow I'll add the brakes and other chassis items. The Carrera Slot bodies are great, pre-painted and decaled AND the hoods open if you grind the locating pins off. Wish they'd do a Roadster or two. The Carrera GS tires are horrid but the Halibrands are nice, and each cars painted a different metallic finish. Once you get the tires off (oof!) grind off the huge center section, it goes over the Great Accurate GS tires quite nicely. Tried blue vinyl O-rings for the Goodyears but they won't apply consistent round and come unstuck. Finally ordered blue decal rings and white Goodyear decals. The roadster will be the last made. Thanx for viewing.
