The first months of the new year means NNL West for me, the one car model show I'm sure to attend each year. Even though I live in Seattle, Washington and have to fly down to central California to do it, I've been going since 2008. Last year we got in a real live show just before the Covid19 shutdowns. But this year we're just battling through what we all hope will be the end of this thing and NNL West 2021 had been canceled. Until a few days ago...
Roy Sorensen, one of the chief organizers of NNL West each year, in conjunction with Fine Scale Modeler magazine, has put together a virtual NNL to replace the cancelled in-person version. There's no entry fee and you can enter as many models as you like, with a 3 photo maximum per entry. There are 7 adult categories plus an under-12 junior modelers class. The deadline for entries is March 31st, 2021. Voting for the traditional People's Choice award runs from April 1st until April 7th, 2021. NNL West as a live event has a reputation as the USA's largest model car show, with over 1,000 cars in most years. With it being virtual this year, modelers from around the world can enter online, leading to possibility of this number being eclipsed. So far, with entries open since the first of the month, there are already nearly 350 cars on view. Here's the link to the entry page: NNL West 2021 Online Entry Page The page has more details about awards and prizes, etc. To enter you must register which happens as part of uploading you first photo.

Looks like it will be well received. The "bogey" at NNL West is an entry of more than 1,000 individual models entered, a number it has exceeded, I think, every year since I began attending in 2009. As of last night I estimate the number of entries to the virtual version as approximately 850 and counting. I suspect, with 3 days to go (plus those entered today which have not been counted yet), the virtual version will exceed that number, too. Interestingly, almost no one named themselves in their posts, and, actually, there weren't that many models (and by implication, modelers) that I recognized. But I'll bet dollars to donuts this version has a broad international representation, although stylistically it looks very North American.

I had a problem yesterday, where I was entering a car on the closed wheel category and it keep switching it to the open wheel category, I sent Roy Sorenson a note and I got 3 !replies from the good guts at NNL West, but since the on-line portion is being handled by FSM they didnt know what to do and were going to speak to the FSM magazine folks and have those deleted and I can re-enter them today. They seem to be on top of it but it is all up to the Magazine. I wanted to say Thanks to the NNL West guys for all their hard work, I have known all of them for probably 25 or so years, I Have put on so many shows myself (40 to 50) I know what the Logistics are and I say "Bravo" to them ENTER ENTER ENTER !!!
