Hello, Inspired by Pascal's exquisite Bugatti, I pulled this from the stash. Let's be honest: I want to do something blue This is the Atlantis reissue of the very old Smer/Merit kit. This kit was originally released in the 1950's. It is a very basic and crude kit by today's standards and it does not lend itself to super-detailing unless you scratchbuild and replace everything. I'm not in the mood for that on this car. Besides, I'm far from been knowledgeable on these cars. So it will be an exercise in the basics. I'm promising myself to refrain from going wild. From the research I've done I want to make it as the 1949 Belgian Grand Prix winner driven by Louis Rosier. Similar to Pascal's Bugatti, Louis Chiron won the 1949 French Grand Prix in one of these. This will be a long term project. This is all there is to it. Very basic. Even the tires are molded in plastic. As previously stated, I'm not an expert on these cars. But the proportions look good. This will take some work to make fit properly. Let's see where this goes! Thanks, Ismael

I started one of these Talbot Lago T26c kits a cheap repop from SMĚR. After a dry fit and cutting out the molded grill, the clear discs to represent the spokes just killed it for me. I have the Heller version which is a more detailed kit with spoked wheels, but would really like to get/make spoked wheels for the SMĚR kit.

Hello,
Thanks Tim! I did order the decals for Rosier's Belguim GP car. Looking at the kit, as suspected, the wheels are the biggest let down. I'll look around to see what I can find. Any ideas on the wheels?
Thanks, Ismael

So it's going to be a basic build, Ismael?
Lets see, engine from Shapeways, wheels and tires....hmm........
You could also take the frame from a Watson roadster kit..
sorry mate my mind is wandering

HA! I insist in keeping it simple. Actually, I'm thinking of gluing the hood shut to avoid engine over detailing. But the kit's wheels are a real let down. I don't mind the plastic tires. I haven't even glued the first 2 parts together Thanks,

When I built the Alfa from Smer/Atlantis I glued the hood shut added a aluminum exhaust and Deeks wires came out nice, now I'm thinking about putting the engine in a 29 Ford Hot Rod or something. Its a Supercharged straight 8 ...Why not! Chris

Hello, Officially started. Cleaned the body halves, hood and nose of considerable flash. Prepared the body halves and gluing. (Feels so good to glue styrene!) Hood fit needs help. Added material to improve fit. That will take some fiddling around but no big deal. Started working seam lines. Thanks, Ismael

I've built both the Smer (Atlantis) and the Heller. The Heller kit is the better of the two with both kits having different carburetion set-ups. I used Heller wheels on both of these cars.

Hello, Daryl, those 2 cars look great! Thanks for sharing. I think the Heller represents a 1950 car while the Smer/Merit represents a '49. A bit more progress: Still a bit more tweaking but getting there Thanks, Ismael
