The Merit/Smer/Atlantis kit is the earlier kit with the downdraft carbs. The Heller kit has the later sidedraft carbs.

Hello, After the major pause for life events, it is time to slowly crawl back under my rock. I have done extensive online research and these were NOT show cars. Exhaust were beaten natural metal and even looked rusty. I used multiple enamel metal shades and a hint of rust towards the front. I don't think I'm done with it. Dullcoat killed the shine but it may need a hint more. I may possibly add a little bluish tint to add heat discoloration. Of course drilled tips were painted black. Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, Glad that all is well and you can once again turn your attention to Talbot Lago T26C. the exhaust in your photographs do look used but not abused. I'd vote for a little blue wash for heat discoloration as well. With your touch, it should really make a major difference in the direction you want to head.

Hello, Suspension mock up. But it needs to be modified to fit the reworked wheels. Not happy with the steering linkage. Will have to do something about it. By the way, body paint is not done. Still more work is needed. Thanks, Ismael

Hello,
Take a look at the exhaust on this car, but most importantly, have a listen. The song starts at about 40 seconds into the video and the heavenly climax of the song is around 4:50 into it.
Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, I'm even more impressed with your exhaust painting/staining as it really does match the one on the real deal in the video. the engine at idle and easy blips sounds really sweet, but I've never much cared for the super load noise of a race engine in a garage. Way to loud and echoes off the walls just distorts what you would hear outside especially as she flies down the track.

Ismael, Now the sounds are so much more realistic as they're not bouncing off the wall and ceiling. Loved watching all those cars "race" around Spa. The field must has cost literally as small fortune.

Hello, The toe link / steering system components is very basic. This is the kit's toe link piece: So I added grease fittings (just a little pin of wire), cut the bar and added adjustment nuts for the links so the car can be properly toe aligned. Pics are bigger than actual size. Like cereal boxes "Enlarged to show texture" After paint and a black wash: Again, larger than actual size. Thanks, Ismael

Hello again, One of the most prominent features of this car is the Wilson pre-select gearbox. You preselect the gear you will use next and when you actuate the clutch pedal it will engage that gear. An example was to pre-select the corner exit gear and while at the apex of the curve you actuate the clutch, downshifting quickly (regular gearboxes required double clutching back then as synchromesh was still in the future) while still wrestling that huge steering wheel with both hands. Anyways, the gear selector is prominent behind the steering wheels. here is an example on a historical racer So I am trying to see if I can do my own. Still a long way to go but moving along! Thanks, Ismael

My Dad had an old Lanchester with a pre-selector gearbox. Apparently it stopped working so they took it apart to try to fix it. That was the end of that car, lol. I don't remember it 'cause I would have been about 2 at the time. Modern day F1 transmissions are really a new interpretation of the old pre-selectors, just somewhat more sophisticated. Hey, I thought this was an OOB build?
It's going to be a great looking model.
