Bernard, The two tone paint job really came out looking super.
Chris, I just may actually read it. Been a while since I actually read a real book with pages. Just have to renew my Library card and hope that they have the book.

If you guys haven't read "Big Daddy" by Don Garlits You should. It has some real insight into the man, his life and his building/racing the Swap Rat dragsters. He outlines the trials and tribulations along the way. A Excellent read whether You are into Drag racing or not. Chris Garlits also cooperated closely with Robert C. Post on Post's "High Performance: The Culture and Technology of Drag Racing, 1950-2000" which is as near to a definitive history of the sport as you will find. In fact it's effectively a history of Garlit's storied career since he was such a pivotal figure throughout the period. It's the perfect complement to Garlit's personal memoir. Garlit's contribution to Post's book is his sharp intellect and deep memory of his experiences and how they fit in the larger history of quarter mile competition. I've recommended this book on an earlier thread and it's still one of my top picks in motorbooks, right up there with Laurence Pomeroy and L.J.K. Setright's The Grand Prix Car Volumes 1,2 (Pomeroy) and 3 (Setright), Neal Thompson"s "Driving with the Devil: Southern Moonshine, Detroit Wheels, and the Birth of NASCAR", Piero Taruffi's "The Technique of Motor Racing " and Griff Borgeson's "The Golden Age of the American Racing Car" and "Miller", his two definitive histories of pre-war American speedway racing.

I’ve been working on the decal, which, as was usually the case on this era of diggers, is very simple. Basically the name of the car. There will be trade decals, as well, but I’ll probably use stock decals from kit sheets unless I have some serious fit problems. My challenge right now is to find a service that will print decals for me from my art since I’ll need to do white and gold.. I recently taught myself the rudiments of vector graphics software and I can supply master art in any of the commonly used formats ( i.e Adobe Illustrator .ai file, Corel Draw .cdr files, or generic vector formats like .svg). In the meantime I’ve decided to change the cowl panel to a slightly wider and longer one. It won’t change the appearance of the car but the fit will be much better. This work should coincide with the arrival of 3D printed zoomies and, hopefully, a decal printing service. Below is a Photoshop mockup of the basic decal scheme laid into the earlier photos I posted. The yellow edges in the mockups will be gold. Once I get over the decal supplier hurdle there will be little to do except for final assembly. Thanx for lookin’, B.

Bernard, I know that Michael the owner of Indy Cals will do custom work. I've never used that service as I can't do the graphics work he requires. But I see no reason why the custom work won't be up to the quality of his regular decals.

I working with someone as we speak and waiting to find out if my files are workable from their POV. Also seeing what the $$$$ will be. I'll get in touch with IndyCals if this doesn't work out. Most decal houses like to do their own graphics because it adds value to their services. Just printing from a customer's own art doesn't add up to much in billable revenue. Most suppliers will erect barriers around file formats/vector art/bitmaps for this reason. I totally understand. But since I tend to do much of my own graphics work it's hard for me to justify paying them for redundant work. For this reason it's been difficult for me to locate a service that's reliable. I used a rfiend I met at NNL West for a while but he currently has life issues that prevent him from printing for me so I have to locate someone else. I really should get my own printer that will do whites and metallics, but they are rare and expensive unless I decided to go into the decal business myself. And I'm afraid that there are others capable of far better work than I ever could offer, like duplicating historic graphic schemes for example, working only from photographs. I'm very impressed by such skills!
