1/12th makes it the Heller kit of course, so yes, I am certifiably nuts.
One of the drawbacks to them is nothing really fits. I painted the monocoque aluminum before I glued it together as the inside of the footwell would be a bit tricky afterwards.
Some work needed on the seams would be an understatement.

A little TLC, painted the side panels white and the rest gloss aluminum, looks a bit better now
The rack can be fitted after, it's just more of a pain.
Some folks complain about the plastic tires, but we all rave about resin ones - treated right the plastic looks just the same as resin. Some sanding, Tamiya Rubber Black, Nato Black on the contact surfaces, Silver Leaf and Gold with Gloss Clear on the rims, voila:
I think they'll do.
Now I wait for the decals to arrive.
Cheers Paul

To paraphrase Star Trek: "To boldly go where no one has ever finished a kit before!" I'm using the plastic tires from that kit to do a John Watson Brabham BT44B that had Firestones. Easier to change the sidewalls on a plastic tire! I'll probably pick up the correct 13" diameter wheels and tires from the guy in Spain, if I ever muster the courage to build the Ligier! Will be following this one with great interest!

I'm building a Protar 1/9 motorcycle kit right now, and I literally have to massage/alter/modify EVERY part to get it together! I'll need a break from this one soon!

Paul, Another 1/12 scale epic build to follow for sure.
The chassis tub really turned out quite nice, so the score is 1-0 in your favor. The plastic wheels and tires look like perfection after you worked your magic on them. I'd swore that they were rubber for sure, so the scores now 2-0 in your favor.

Thanks Joel, but the score's awful close.

Paul, You're still pitching a perfect game even if it's so early in the game.

Patrick, I figure it's up on your to build list right after your last Ferrari. joel Of which there are at least three in the pile but they are all very brittle Protar kits... and I will have to save up all my pennies and sell some stuff if I ever want to attack that MFH 1960 Ferrari 156 Dino. The wire wheels on it are enough to make my hair turn completely white! Wait... it already is!

An update. Not a lot of time to play model builder with being a geriatric home renovator . But I got a little bit done. This is one of Indycals sheets where he doesn't give you the white parts (odd, he does on the 1/20th scale sheet), so the dreaded pinstripes. I already painted the white part, so a little index mark where I think (hope) the stripe goes:
And then the whole tub will get a clear coat - the pics I've seen of the Ligiers seem to show a high shine on the aluminum so hopefully the clear won't look out of place.
This is not an alien sea creature from the abyss:
It's Hellers version of the Lucas distributor and injection pump. A bit different from Tamiya's, but I like it so I decided not to swap it out.
I prefer the Heller cap, the wires fit through the holes (ethernet cable fits perfectly) as opposed to tubing over the posts, just looks neater and much easier. The injector pump I inserted some steel pins through the holes and fit the tubing over (Tamiya tubing, the kit stuff decomposed years ago):
And the basic Heller engine and transaxle before the accessories get added:
No complaints with this part of the kit.
Now back to the reno, and Patrick if you want your hair to turn really white, come help me sand the drywall.
Cheers
Paul

Drywall, one of the few things I've done in my life that can compare with a Heller kit! Lucky for me, I only have two rooms left to do! Your Ligier looks pretty good so far, Paul! It's kind of nice seeing kits built recently that I've never seen done before. Must be more model-masochists than there used to be!

Paul, Now that's some very impressive decaling. Most of Indy Cal sheets in the smaller scales are offered with the background color or just the decals without any background color. I've always used them without the background as I'm 100% positive I would screw it up with wrinkle city.
The Lucas distributor and injection unit is wired and plumbed to perfection.
I'd come and help you sand the drywall mud but I still have to finish doing the same in our basement that I've been putting off for more then a year. Right now my focus is on redoing the shelving and storage in the back of garage so that the new snow blower will have a proper home up against the back wall, all my tools and tool boxes on their own shelves, and car stuff as well. That should free up more then enough space for the cars without worrying about hitting something I've got in the space between the cars.
