Two Ferrari 312 crashed in the 2021 Historic race at Monaco

OUCH!!!!!  That hurt$$$$$ so much!

Two separate incidents today (4/24/2021) in the Monaco Historic races involving Ferrari 312s.

The first incident with Alex Caffi.  Ferrari 312




Second incident: Rene Arnoux / Ferrari 312B3  I think this one will be more expensive than the first one.

This has to be the most expensive car related hobby




I'm all for old race cars to be used, but these guys are not cruising. They are pushing as hard as ever!  Hate to see this turn into a demolition derby.

I 100% agree. These cars are more then just classics, they're in the forefront of auto racing history. What's more, unlike in "real" racing where the entire field can turn very similar lap times, there's such an assortment of cars from eras that have speeds/times that just vary wildly from the across the field. What's more, many of the drivers are past professionals, yet as you said are driving close to, if not at 10/10s and don't seem to care that this isn't a real race. More like they're trying to relive their glory racing years.

This has been, and still is, one of the main reasons why I'm against racing these cars without stricter limits. I'm sure that the owners saw more then Ferrari Red when they learned that their car is now toast.

Thes cars were built for racing, so that's what the owners & drivers do with them. No one wants to crash these cars as getting hurt is far greater in older cars but it's part & parcel of racing.

These cars will be repaired and back racing.

  Sorry, but I totally disagree with your point of view. Their days as race cars are long over, and have moved on to the classic stage where they're pampered and care for at an extremely high level as pieces of racing history. There's no need to race any of these cars at 10/10s especially when the field is comprised of cars with completely different rates of acceleration, HP, and braking performance.  No one is watching these races cheering on their favorite cars and drivers of the past to win, as there's really no winning or loosing, just reliving those racing days of yesteryear. 
 
  As for repairing a crashed car, well, original parts most likely don't exist, and fabricated ones do indeed decrease the value of the car to other collectors.  I highly doubt the body panels of today really match those that were made by hand years ago by masters at the trade.

I'd rather see the car running at a track than in a Museum or just coasting along a parade lap. The owners of the cars have more than enough money to afford repairs plus making new parts/bodywork to match perfectly with today's tech is easier than ever with 3D scanning and such. Plus who's to say the majority of them out there haven't been repaired many times before and surely arn't museum pieces to begin with.

Racing is racing whether its historic cars or not and there is still prizes on the line.

Thats not to say that hosting a race at Monaco is smart but this is for the 1% after all.

Just my point of view. But the history of these cars are generally known from the day they 1st hit the track to now. It's up to the owner what he wants to do with the car. It's just that simple.
