Well, race #2 for the new season at St. Pete, and once again NBC coverage is just absolutely unwatchable with their nearly constant split screens, which is more like 2/3 commercials and 1/3 racing with the banner below the 1/3 dropping it to maybe 1/4 screen every 7-10 min with a min of the same 7 commercials over and over and over again. And now when the split screen commercials are over you're greeted with a full screen commercial or overlay instead of the race and commentary. Just impossible to follow the race.
And I thought that last year was the worst coverage yet, but boy was I wrong as the Penske group just caved in to continue this poor excuse for coverage.
Of course what they really want is for me to sign up for Peacock (owned by NBC). Gee, what a surprise that is for $4.99/month to get full coverage from practice through the race. Of course I believe that you still have to endure the never ending commercial onslaught unless you go for the $9.99/month Gold package. I'm already saddled with nearly a $200/month cable bill that does include cable and phone, just to basically get the internet because Verizon has been shut out of our area by Altice agreements with the township.
So the bottom line is that at halfway I turned off the broadcast and I'm done with Indy Car till they come up with a better set of options. If F1 is commercial free, and Nascar has way less commercials, why can't Indy Car have a better tv viewing experience. So it's back to Nascar along with F1. And I can always catch the highlights on You Tube later in the week commercial free.

Watching IMSA on NBC sucks too. Fox Sports had better coverage, which isn’t saying much. I’ve been waiting for the taped races to come up on YouTube a week or so after the race and watching them. Much less hassle. Right now I’m watching a taped GT World Challenge race on CBSSN. Far better coverage.

Funny! After watching the race on NBC and reading this I realized, we DO have Peacock My wife and kids subscribed a while ago for TV series and stuff. So I'm already paying for it. Thanks, Ismael

Ben, NBC and NBCSN is so horrid, that today was the day that broke the Camel's back, and I really look forward to Indy Car races as much as F1. But I'm going to live with what I can find on You Tube. I figure that it takes a full week or two for the full race to show up. In the mean time there's plenty of Highlight shows if I can't wait, and honestly I can at this point.
As for F1, no commercials period on ESPN. Just simply fantastic to follow a race. Nascar on Fox is fine for coverage, but the races are just to darn long. So I record them, the cut out the commercials. Saves a good hour or so.
Ismael, I should have known that somehow you would find a way to have Peacock. You're one lucky dog for sure.
