I just got the news that Bobby Unser , age 87 passed away last night at his home in New Mexico. The 3 time Indy 500 winner was a good friend of my late Father John Hale. It was Bobby that insisted my Dad take the 1973 Eagle out in testing at Ontario Motor Speedway in 1972, after my Dad fixed a suspension problem that almost shelved the entire project. He ran an un-official 202mph lap before handing the car over to Bobby who ran similar laps. The 1968 Indy 500 Winner drove until 1979 for AAR and Dan Gurney with many winning drives. Bobby was a multiple Pikes Peak record holder and a Winning driver in almost everything he drove, from Sprints to Sports Cars but mostly Open Wheel Cars. This news brings great sadness to Our home and Our Condolences go out to All the Unser Family, R.I.P. Bobby, Chris

Thanks Chris for posting Bobby's passing. He will be greatly missed as I loved all the Unsers. Bobby, Al, & of course Little Al. Each certainly had their own personalities and styles behind the wheel, and each were championship Indy car drivers. The family did own Pikes Peak for many years, and held a ton of records. I remember when Bobby did the color commentary on ABC and NBC and called it like it was. No sugar coating it for him.

RIP Bobby. You were one of the very best, in and out of the car.
