So, I'm playing around with parts and pieces that find their way into my shop. I like to think that I have a fertile imagination, and being both a child of the 60's and a former racer; things just seem to pop sometimes. Well, some synapses fired recently, and this is forming up on the workbench. First, the creation of an 1/18 scale Cross Ram Fuel Injected Big Block. Couple of sample pictures here of the real thing here. And pieces from the parts bin. The long block is from the Carousel 1 L88 Corvette mold; not sure where the injectors came from, but they were intended to be vertical and not horizontal.
Stuff it into my donor chassis, and really pleased with where we can start from. There are already some conflicts, as there is a clearance issue with the Master Cylinder, however this can be cured by going to a more contemporary multi-container/remote set up, like this Tilton unit. Here's a quick picture of some 3D printed flares. Still haven't figured out how they will work out.

So, as I attempted to pre-fit the 3D-printed flares (which are a scan and print of some from a 1/24 scale Revell/AMT(?) kit), I'm thinking, this isn't really going to accomplish much. I'll probably spend a lot of time grinding off the interfering diecast in order for them to fit properly. Then it hit me. The Carousel 1 donor body emulates an L88, which already came with flares.
So I just happened to have a couple of donor 1/18 scale Revell 1969 Corvette convertibles on the rack. That's better! Plus, the body fits pretty nicely down onto the Carousel 1 chassis. Stay Tuned!

Upon further review, I've decided to purchase another body donor, primarily because I only have one Carousel 1 roof, and want to keep it with its model. This is a 1969 Corvette by Hot Wheels. I'm hoping that it's body mounting characteristics are similar to the Revell and original Carousel 1 body. Going to be a while before I can make any progress. Stay Tuned!

I'm looking forward to this. I have a very similar idea, but in 1/24th plastic of course. Take a stock Corvette kit and try to make Eppie Weitzes' Trans Am winner from it. Please keep us posted, I'm all in!
