Work has continued on finishing up the body minus a few very small parts till the last step, as I’m sure that parts like door handles, antennas, etc. surely would get broken as fast as I glued them into place. I glued up the rear wing and struts, but just dry fitted the wing to the body for now. The body shell was polished with the Gravity 3 step system, followed by their wax. The front windshield/side windows (one piece), and the rear window were masked with the excellent Tamiya masks, and were air brushed with Mr. Finisher’s 1500 black primer. The next day both were installed using Revell Clear glue. I was really surprised at how well it worked. The top half of the front splitter is the bottom mounting points for the body were polished then I added the Tamiya kit Carbon Fiber decals. Really not worth the effort as they’re basically gloss black and so is the body. I painted the intake radiator Matt black then dry brushed it Aluminum, glued it to the lower half of the radiator shroud, then glued that assembly to the shell. Next up was the multi piece front and rear bulb housings, bulbs, and clear glass. Typical Tamiya engineering as everything fit like a glove. Finally as a change of pace, I air brushed the mag wheels a metallic gun metal color, then glossed the tires, when dry I pushed the mag wheels through the tires then added the Tamiya tire and wheel decals. I gotta say that the newer Tamiya decals are pretty nice. A lot thinner then they use to be, and a lot easier to work with. Finally, I added a brush applied coat of Micro Matt. And a top shot till the next update. joel

I love the car and you're doing a masterful job on it Joel, but I really could do without the bear (or whatever it is!!).
Nice job my friend!

Paul, Thanks for you thumbs up on my progress to date, and your feedback on the sponsor scheme as it's always most appreciated.
The bear is the official logo of Haribo, the candy conglomerate that invented the Gummy Bear and Gummy Worms sold everywhere world wide. They also own the GT3 team, so the sponsorship must have been designed in house.

That's looking great, Joel! I love the wheels. My younger daughter loved gummy bears when she was a kid. It's best to stick with their regular version that contains sugar. Unless you're constipated... LINK Ben

Been nearly 2 weeks but I’ve once again I've finally got enough done to post another update. Time to tackle the 4 coil over shocks. Nothing special as even Tamiya molds them as one piece, but they all fit the super simplified suspension perfectly. All the detail painting was done by very shaky hands as I have to kind of feel for the part and where I want to apply the paint. Needless to say I make more mistakes then I’d care to admit. Removing the paint and starting over has become a whole new facet of the hobby for me. Here’s the 4 shocks ready to be installed. Next up was the interior, and once again Tamiya did an excellent job of shrinking the real deal down to 1/24 scale. as the finished results match my resource pictures to a “T”. All the major components were air brushed with Tamiya and Mr. Color paints. The dash is a two tone affair with the top being a neutral gray while the the lower half is semi gloss black. The hardest and most tidiest part of the painting was the center console as the top section is semi gloss black as is the rear deck and front section. Masking both took me nearly 6 hours, 30 min to air brush, and all of 5 min to strip off all the masking tape. The roll cage for once builds up without any need for taping or pressure anywhere, and it also fits like a well made leather glove. I primed it with Tamiya semi gloss black thinned 40/60 as I wanted it smooth as silk, when dry, I air brushed on Alcad 2 Duraluminum as it has the shine some where between chrome and polished steel, which is what I was looking for. The center panel had its various switches painted in silver and the covered toggle switches are flat dark gray, so back to hand painting once more using Tamiya Nato Black, and then dry brushing Aluminum to help highlight them. The grips on the wheel were painted Tamiya Neutral Gray as in real life the wheel frame is Carbon Fiber but the grips are covered in various man made materials, but no long leather. Here’s an example of one of the wheels used in the Merc AMG GT3 car: Both door cards are Alum with the center sections painted Semi Gloss Black. The simplified suspensions were built up with the disc brakes on all 4 corners, then the shocks installed. The wheels and tires next were bolted on Here’s a few pics of the overall car minus the body shell. Once the door cards were glued into place, the interior becomes rather difficult to really see. I finally got around to applying both the front and rear glass sun visors, and a few misc. decals. Now all that’s left is the door handles and antennas which will be the very last details added so I don’t knock them off. joel

Ben, Thanks so much for checking out my final update on the Merc AMG GT3, and your thumbs up on how it came out. I really enjoyed the build as Tamiya did their usual excellent engineering job on the kit especially as it didn't have a engine, transmission, nor a full suspension. Of course the highlight for me was those SK Decals. Now I even love Gummy Bears even more.
