I'm not home but I can write more later. RAW is not a usable format. RAW is not standard. Every camera manufacturer can use a different type of raw, but they are aligning to DNG. What you see from raw is an in camera jpg interpretation thumbnail. You can't see raw as it is just data. If you manually convert raw straight into jpg with no adjustment it will look worst than a jpg picture straight from the camera because jpg engines apply tons of corrections: white balance, sharpening, contrast, noise, distortion and a gazillion others. RAW requires processing, either automated or manual. That's what I do as a professional photographer.
