The 1/12th Protar kit. It's a pain in the rear but It's getting there.
Steel pins and plastic dowels subbed for the stupid screws. Steel tie rods, brake lines, some wiring added.
Tub is done with AS12 bare metal silver with 3 coats of clear.

As always I stuff the motor in ASAP, so finished off the front of it.
At least it fit fairly well.

Suspension work. More dowels (anybody need some screws, I have lots).
The kit wires and tubing are useless, so I used my own.
Very nice detail in this kit but a poor fit mostly. Better that than the other way around, so far it's working not too bad.

I am assuming this is the Metal Version? I dont know if I see the advantage to the Metal version if you are doing Super Detailing, I have a all Plastic version so all your mods apply but maybe easier to drill, file and sand than the metal. yours is looking really Great so far.. Chris

Two major issues. First, I thought the body had a warp to it - it does, but it's very minor. What's warped is the floor/sidepod, all one large piece. I think I can get away with boiling it, we'll see. Worse problem, well
Yep, tire is trash. After some research I found that the tires are also sized for a late season '82 car, but the kit is the early season version. Go figure. So I'm on the hunt for some 13" tires and rims, or maybe I'll have to make my own.
For the moment I'll just pick away at it.

Thanks Chris. No, it's all plastic. I didn't know there was a metal version, they can keep that!

Paul, Another horrid kit that you're working your magic on. Tub and engine really do look good. That's gotta be one of the worst tires I've ever seen that came from a kit. Hopefully you'll find some decent replacements.

We shall see. For now, it goes on the shelf as a finished chassis.

Worst case you could make jack stands and display it without wheels.

Worst case you could make jack stands and display it without wheels. Or I could display it with 3 good wheels and tires, totally shred the fourth and call it authentic Villeneuve.

Paul, Your build to date is amazing especially considering the age and fit of the kit. Hopefully it will be back on the bench sooner then later.

I just simply cannot get over all of the detail that I see going into this one. I mean....I realize it's a larger scale kit and all but DANG.....this is nuts!!! Outstanding workmanship Paul.

Thanks. Some guys can do this in 1/25th, but it's beyond me. The older I get, the beyonder it becomes, lol.

Update: The floor has been boiled, de-warped and stress relieved. A bit of a struggle but now attached to the chassis. Similar tweaking of the upper body, but a test fit and it's fitting perfectly (so far!).
Now I can paint while I'm waiting for my tires.

Well, I've got a set of resin tires and wheels from a very nice guy in Spain, so now I can hopefully finish this beast.
