Moebius 1961 Pontiac Ventura

Got this kit for next to nothing. My first Moebius kit. Thought it was a pretty car and with a tri-power 421 to top it off. My wife had picked out a green the last time we went to the hobby shop and wanted me to paint something with it. This seemed like the perfect vessel. This kit also became a test mule for my first ever airbrushed parts and my first ever attempt at Bare Metal Foil. Good fun. Details are excellent throughout the kit. Decals were atrocious and if I get another Moebius kit I'll scan the decals first for safety. This isn't even that old of a kit. Fit is extremely tight. Could be compromised by a single coat of paint. Much test fitting and scraping and hand drilling was in my future. Went with a stock style 3 tone interior and I wired the ignition wires of the excellent kit engine. Also used some individual chrome air cleaners rather than the big disc to cover up less of the engine. All in all a nice kit and a fun build. On to whatever is next. Mercedes 540k maybe or March 86C. Who knows.

Never seen one of those before. The 1:1 car I mean, Pontiac sold entirely different cars in Canada back then. I like it.

IMSA March 86C? what kit is that? I have wanted one since I saw the 84C race at Riverside in the 6 hour...Chris-

I think he probably means Indy March 86C like in Bobby Rahal's '86 Indy 500 winner.

Indeed. It is the beautifully terrible AMT 86C that they came out with following Al Sr’s win. Rear suspension is wrong. I doubt I’ll worry about correcting it on this build. It’s just something for fun. Not building Al’s car or Bobby’s. It is in the process of becoming Kevin Cogan’s 7/11 car from 1986.

IMSA March was the 86G was it not? The prototype? Lovely machine. I am building the horrible old indy car kit.

I like that body style too, Kyle.

Canadian Pontiacs:  Parisienne = Catalina but with a 283 or 327 Chevy motor

                           Laurentian= one model down with 250 or 283 Chevy

                           Strato Chief = base piece of junk, 6 only

                           Acadian = Chevelle with a different grill, later a Chevette with a different grill

                           Beaumont = hopped up Acadian, up to 396 Chevy

                           Le Mans = Le Mans with a 327

                           GTO = same as US, usually a 389

                           Firebirds = 326 OHC Pontiacs, 327, 305, 350 Chevys, 400, 455 Pontiacs, 403 Oldsmobile

I had a 65 Parisienne Custom Sport (327, bucket seats), and an 81 Firebird Formula (403 Oldsmobile), both nice cars for the era. Loved the Firebird.

Now that’s some excellent information! Like I said, I had no idea. That Parisienne sounds really sweet. But who could beat an 81 firebird with the big block of small blocks? A glorious machine
