What does the nut case up on the glacier do when he's not resurrecting junk that should be disposed of? Sometimes he builds OOB brand new models, lol.
The Tamiya 1/12th BT44B kit. Started June 26th, I didn't take progress pics, just built it. So about 3 weeks, realistically about 35 - 40 hrs actual work. Nice enough kit, suspension's a bit fiddly but it all works in the end.
Box stock except for adding and swapping out braided lines for the kit parts, added some wiring, seat belts, Indycals decals, that's about it.
Took some pics before the bodywork and seat went on:
And the finished product. I thought I had my decals lined up properly but they ended up off slightly, no idea how. I might order another set from Michael and fix it no big deal:
I rearrainged the decal positions to represent Reutteman's 75 Nurbergring winner.
Good kit to build, at least everything fit fairly well
Cheers
Paul

Paul, Great build for sure. OOB has more then enough detail to capture the viewer's eye. And your paint job looks fantastic.
I've actually got this kit in my stash when it was 1st released, but that's as far as it ever got to my bench.

Did I sell this kit to you? I forget…

Patrick, Nope. I got it from Sprue Brothers a few years ago when they had it on sale. Still haven't even cut the shrink wrap yet, and peaked inside. I'm afraid that the 1/12 scale Dark Side Monster will entice me inside, and I'll get hooked. It would be great for my horrible eye sight, but it would kill my hobby budget. joel

Very nice build, Paul. I've got one in the stash somewhere. But first a BT45

35-40 hours?? It would take me 5 TIMES that amount of time to pull something off like you've done here. Man that looks GREAT!!! Awesome job on the details.

I wash all the parts on the sprues with Dawn and rinse with warm water before I start.
I use rattle cans, and I don't polish anything. The bodywork got one coat of white primer, wet sanded with 1500. Then one tack coat and one wet coat of paint. Build the engine while it cures. After 2 days apply decals, next day 2 coats of clear, paint done. On the Brabham, if it isn't white, it's black. Spray all the black parts sprues with one coat of semi gloss black. I don't airbrush, so no time spent masking this baby. Anything getting a metallized finish gets sprayed silver on the sprue.
All my Alclads are applied with sticks with bristles on the end. Dry rubs and washes also. One coat of clear may or may not go on after. I don't fuss if it isn't quite perfect. I touch up everything when it's built. That's what the little tiny paint brushes are for.
How much time do you guys spend just cleaning the airbrush?
cheers

I like your method. Very straightforward. I do love a nice hairy stick. As everyone is aware I can’t possibly fuss if things aren’t perfect because, well, there’s no danger of me doing anything perfect. 😂 Always a big fan of your work Paul.
