This model was based on the original car as it sat in the Briggs Cunningham Museum, as a teenager my Dad held R/C car races there every Sunday, so I went with him to hang out inside the museum. I became good friends with Briggs, who would like to get in a car and tell me stories of racing at LeMans and all the tracks of the World. When the MkII GT40 was being built at AVS-FORD, they were given a unlimited amount of money and told by Henry Ford II to build a car to "Beat Ferrari no matter the Cost!" so as the prototype came together the engineers had decided to use the Ford D.O.H.C. Indy engine, but when they went to the Indy engine team they were told "No we need every engine to win the Indy 500" so they went to the NASCAR guys and used the production based 427cid. A handful of D.O.H.C. cars were built but never actually race by Ford.. Note the car in the Briggs museum was converted to street specs, and the trans was an automatic ZF, since then it has been changed back to race spec and now compete in the Vintage races with a 302 Weslake engine.. I used 4 IMC Ford GT40 kits, mostly because they all had warped or bad parts, much of this car was scratchbuilt, stainless steel tube suspension, much, much sheet styrene, a huge amount of RB Motion nuts, bolts, washers and rod ends!! Tamiya Paint , hand made stripes were made on decal paper sprayed with Tamiya Silver and hand cut. It was a feature model in Model Car Builder Magazine, some 6 pages describing the history and build.. There are basically no kit parts left on the model everything was extremely modified or scratchbuilt. The kit was around 100 pieces and the model ended up around 700! The Fuel Injection was over 90 parts alone!! I changed a few things like silver stripes instead of black etc. for artistic enjoyment! Thanks, Justin I dont have any larger pics, but I remember the door pins were plastic and I replaced them with thin wall stainless surgical tubing, the front and rear bonnet hinge mounts were left stock since I wanted to have the bonnets completely removable to show the detail work. This being such an old kit I went through and re-engineered a lot of the assemblies and replaced much of the kit with alternate materials and scratch built parts. Sorry I couldnt be more help on that but if I can answer any other questions you know where to find me.. Chris

Love the idea of the DOHC and don't know why Ford didn't run it especially with 289 or 302 block. Always wanted to see it in a BRG Spyder and think I will do that with my Monogram Roadster after all we can take artistic license right? The "P" Pandemic is killing me with buying things off eBay but I did splurge and get a Joueffe Ferrari P-4 I've been looking for for 20 years, and it comes with a Heller P-4 and diorama! I had just got done a few minutes before buying a Heller P-4 French sold kit with Paris hobby shop sticker for a decent price. So one of these will convert into a "Prototipi" P-3 with the huge headlight covers and the "Basket Handle" roof. The only nice, "small Webers" I can find for the P-3 are the AMT Lotus 29 which are supposed to be 58mm but appear to be smaller than 48mm and close to the center mount carbs size. The AMT also provides the only decent "Dunlop" slotted wheels used on the Ferrari P-2 and P-3. Now for chassis, I got a lot of ideas off the Internet and tried 5 years ago to use a BBurrago Ferrari 250 LM which actually looked quite close to the P-2 once you chopped out the BBurrsago logo and screw holes. Another BBurrago 250 LM (Mecom version) is in order. So much I've discovered during these trying times hope the hobby industry is selling stuff we can finally build.

How many Ford 255 DOHC 1/24 1/25 engines are out there? I've accounted for three: MPC Gurney Eagle, AMT Lotus 29 and IMC Lotus 38. All have their flaws: MPC is the best by far but appears to be slightly overscale. The AMT and IMC first appear to be the same mold but are actually SLIGHTLY different: IMC block shorter with freeze plug detail, AMT smooth block. IMC heads longer, cam cover smooth, no hold down nuts. both front accessory drive covers different, IMC headers one piece, AMT individual, both with Collati gearbox, bellhousings different details. If my memory serves me correct I believe AMT or MPC put a DOHC in a Galaxie, or Mustang drag car, anyone confirm? I just picked up a Cox and an Eldon 1/24 BRM and thought the AMT would make a nice engine, suitable modified and different gearbox or maybe a Coventry - Climax V8, actually a combination of the IMC and AMT, exhaust and intake switched on some versions. Just remembered the early DOHC tested in Bobby Marshman's (I need decals) Lotus 29 car with three different exhaust setups all straight back no "Bundle of snakes" which I want to make. Any thoughts?

Thank You for the kind words, the attached photo is the real car while in the Briggs Cunningham Museum in Costa Mesa Ca. so many years ago. I built mine as the race version, as Described to me by Briggs and from my memories of spending oh so many hours in and around the Car and the Man. In this pic it is in Street shape with mufflers! Yeah He would drive it home down Laguna Canyon on occasion. I understand it is still around and on occasion runs in Vintage Race events. Guys I have built a few Cars that were important to me for various reasons, One was the GT40 D.O.H.C. and another is the 1969 STP "Offy" Indy Car that ran in the 1969 500 , well for a short time. If you haven't looked at the build its on the Open Wheel Forum and now I am very proud to say it has had over 30,000 Views, You read it right take a look at the car here mb2501.proboards.com/thread/2024/1969-lotus-56b-offy so many people all over the world seem to like this build, for some reason, well you decide...
