These are called a painted lady butterfly and can be found by the millions in CA in May.

There was a bumper crop of them this year. There were several occasions when I was walking my dogs and we would suddenly be enveloped in a cloud of butterflies.

One thing that I noticed in the McLaren M8A picture is just how crudely the rear wing was fitted and attached to the bodywork.
