If you're in the middle of Florida this weekend (21 October), you should consider the Lake Mirror Classic Car Show, in Lakeland. The Classic Cars, boats and trucks surround the lake, and Vintage race cars are found near the plaza up the hill from the Speaker' stand. But wait! There's more: just about every car club in the area has it's cars on display, up the hill, surrounding Munn Park! Plan on spending the whole day! The show officially opens at 10 o'clock, but the cars begin arriving at 7 o'clock, which is the best time to get there and talk to the owners (I spent well over an hour with the proud owner of a Bizzarini racer that he had restored, with scrapbooks and all!) The whole deal is free, so it gets crowded by eleven, Arrive early to take photos. Bring a jacket--it will be 81 degrees (cold by Florida standards), and a camera. Only a slight chance of rain this year. Exit I-4 at Florida Ave, turn south, past route 92, to Main Street, and turn East to the Lake, right downtown, by the Giant swan statue (an interesting story by itself).
