Hello everyone! Well you may or may not know that I am NOT much of a picture taker when I am WORKING on a project, I would much rather do it after. That being said I STILL OWE some photos of the recent ARII 2-C I completed in curbside mode.
Anyhow what I am extremely excited about and I actually may take some photos of, is my newest project, a Chaparral 2-F resin beauty developed and cast by FISHER. I started to think about what I could do to add a little umph and flair to this fine body, then it hit me, I could pretty much do the same with the engine as I did on my 2-C, thing being it's going to be more difficult to actually SEE anything, BUT!! That is what I am trying to achieve not a whole lot of attention to any one thing on these kits. and the really amazing thing is this.....after scouring 2-F engine bay photos on Pinterest and there really aren't that many out there I had a brainstorm...what if I bought a basic stock 427 (VCG Resin's) engine block, an intake manifold with 4 Weber down draft carbs and venturi detail (HRM), a new set of tires to replace the kit supplied "silicone", again, (HRM). What if I had a donor, say a Modelers 2-D, also in 1/24th scale. Maybe I could do some interesting things......BOY HOWDY did I hit the jackpot here, where to begin okay; I dry fitted the webers and manifold on the block, I then dry fitted the cold air plenum from the 2-D and it's right on with a little modification. I have the clear stacks, which are true to the 1:1 car, I have a "window" on the back of the cold air plenum that lines up quite nicely with the frame that is from the kit supplied 1:1 car also. It was then I realized I probably could use the clear firewall supplied in the Modelers kit, the one with the roll bar molded in to be painted black. Sure enough, it fits in there like it was actually made for that. It looks like I am going to have to redo the spare tire "trunk" to get the workings all in there. I glued the so called "trans-axle" to the block just for alignment purposes. I forgot just HOW much fun it can be to model again. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

If you are like me and struggle to remember the various iterations of the Chaparrals this is the Fisher 2-F kit Bill is starting with.

Thank You J.C. your photos are so much better than anything I am getting. I have a NIKON CoolPix that had a broken latching device for the battery compartment, I was able to piece in a a section of black sprue and repair it so that it is usable again. I admit this is the part of my photo taking that is lacking right now, I really don't have an area set up to take nice photos. It was a little easier 20 some years ago when I had my NIKON EM you know the kind that used a thing called film!

Bill I use a old Nikon CoolPix (10MP) as well. I upload the photos to my Fotki account and then add them through the "Insert Image" drop down menu here on the forum.

After my Dad made the Chaparral 2D Master for the Cox slot cat body he became pretty good friends with Jim Hall. I have to say both the 2D and the 2F are equally my favorite Chaparral's mostly due to its extensive race history in the European Racing Circuits. When Hall was -trying to figure out how to and what to use to seal the 2J to the ground, he remembered a conversation with my Dad about a new GE material they were using to vacu-form Slot Car bodies! , it was considered Bullet proof, popped right back into shape when hit or damaged and was very easy to work with...Lexan, so he called my Dads shop and talked to a guy who was always there, a NASA design engineer named Chuck Hallum, and Chuck told him all about Lexan , where to get it and how to use it. The Rest is History!!Chuck was a paraplegic, due to a liquid oxygen spill on the launch pad at NASA, his lower body was literally frozen! I talked to my Mom about 4 months ago and through the efforts of Modern Medicine, and NASA he now has a robotic device that allows him to walk and even run like anyone else!!! Chris

Chris Thank You for sharing that Chris what a great story, I love hearing this kind of stuff especially Chuck Hallum. I am a cancer survivor 7 times over, tomorrow I start back on chemo, I have been dealing with this since 1995, not looking for pity just relaying my situation, you do what you gotta do to get along, I would say Chuck is a testament to that.

WOW what a wealth of info you have there, I spend a LOT of time just feeding my curiosity over one thing or another, constant stream of question answered. Thank You so much for that invaluable packet of information. I have also been doing more things to the 2F since I had my realization the about "parts" swapping with the Modelers 2D. I started on the VCG resins 427 engine block. I am really going to have to modify the 2 d's plenum, I don't want to damage those clear trumpets. I understand they will probably be near impossible to view but, unfortunately, I know they are there. I also thinned out the firewall with my battery dremel. I made a correct roll bar from a small piece of brass tubing. I do have Evergreen clear so fashioning a "window" shouldn't be a problem. Some of the interior original lines, well, appear to be laid out for just such adventures, cool. PICTURES coming, gulp.

Thanks, Bill...Just looking at this pic from LeMans I have to say ,there is a sh*t load of engineering on this engine, engine bay, rear end and of course the hidden yet well cooled Auto trans!!!! Even just simple items from Chevrolet like the typical Corvette/Harrison coolant tank just amazes me. Having worked for GM Design I know about certain technological trade offs between Jim Hall and GM.. A lot of patented stuff that went both ways but GM filed the patents to keep others from using the items.?? Chris
