This is the original issue of this kit I got at a discount because the decals were water damaged. The kit was recently reissued, so I was fairly certain I could easily obtain replacements. Unfortunately shortly after I bought the kit, Hobbico, the US distributor, went bankrupt so I had to scratch that plan. I considered the Charge scheme, but I’ve always found the green and orange combo a bit garish. So the kit sat half finished. Finally over the summer, I saw that Hiroboy had an aftermarket set in stock, and two weeks later I was ready to finish it up! The aftermarket set required painting the blue, as opposed to being decals on the kit sheet. I was a bit intimidated, but measured twice and cut once, and I’m very happy with the result. Paint was Tamiya TS-44 Brilliant Blue, TS-26 Bright White, and TS-13 Gloss Clear. The Shunko decals were among the highest quality decals I’ve ever used. Despite only being a curbside kit, this is easily the best car I’ve built. I look forward to adding a couple more Hasegawa Group C cars to my collection.

Real Nice Rob, I am a long time Mazda Fan, I have a Lemans Miniatures MX-1 resin kit I will be building soon. Yours came out great and was well worth waiting on decals.. Chris

Thanks for the kind words guys.
In all, I ended up paying more for my damaged kit + decals than I would have if I had just bought the reissue, but the Shunko decals were so nice that it was well worth it in the end.
Chris, I’m a Mazda fan too. I drive a 2014 Mazda 3 that I absolutely love, so I always keep a lookout for cool Mazda projects to do. I’ve done a couple of Miatas (one new, one old) that I need to photograph and post. Can’t wait to see your MX-1 progress!

Gorgeous model of a kit that doesn't seem to get built very often.

Beautiful! I’m another Mazda fan (and drive an ‘04 Mazdaspeed Miata). A Charge car is on my to-do list, someday. I got to see the 787b run at the Mitty at Road Atlanta a few years ago. It was ear-splitting and awesome!

That sure looks GOOD! You did great on the masking for the blue paint. Looks like a decal...
