Hello, This was built about a decade ago. My first and only F1 so far. I stumbled across the original progress thread. I'll combine both the progress and the final pics in 2 posts. Progress: The way this kit is designed you have to put the interior tub before getting the body halves together. This leaves unacceptable gaps. So after some thought, I opened the back of the tub and the seat can slide forward now. The body can be glued and painted. Body prep and lines rescribed The color is not 100% accurate. I used a factory Corvette color (what a surprise!) on hand. the main difference is that the car is a solid color and the one I used is metallic. But the shade is not that far off. I have an alibi for that...... "Re-engineered" some parts to be able to paint before assembly. The kit tries to take you the other way around. Added aluminum exhaust tips. Few things bother me more than a solid exhaust tip. Basic interior. Added kevlar decals on the sides of the tub. Thanks, Ismael

Hello again, And this is the completed model: Jacques Villeneuve (son of Gilles Villeneuve, the Ferrari Grand Prix driver that was tragically killed in an accident in 1982) was a very successful Canadian race car driver. He won the Indy 500 in 1995, the Indy Car Championship the same year and then moved to Formula 1 where he won the 1997 World's Driver's Championship driving a Williams Renault FW19. This model represents his 1997 championship car. In France, as well as in some other countries, tobacco sponsors are not allowed to advertise on race cars. So for the French Grand Prix in June 26,1997 the car appeared with this scheme, replacing the Rothmans logos with question marks. Revell of Germany kit 1/24 scale "Limited Edition" Championship release Cobra Colors paint Built pretty much box stock except for the exhaust tips and added some carbon fiber and Kevlar decals. Issues: Decals were immune to decal solvents and setting solutions. Did not conform nor cooperated. Had to get an extra set to finish the build. Disclaimer on the color: After the championship season was over, Williams toured the car on shows for a few years. While on tour in the US, I acquired the car from them for an undisclosed amount, but it was a bit deteriorated, so I re-painted it in Corvette blue because I like it better than the original blue. That's my story and I'll stick to it... Thanks, Ismael

Very nice Ismael. I have a few of the Revell 1/24 scale F1 kits, maybe I need to dig one out and build it.

Wow Ismael, you killed it! As a primarily box stock builder, I really appreciate the work you did on this one without adding a lot of aftermarket goodies. Just good clean building techniques. Your posts (among several other great builders here) really inspire me to get to the workbench and improve my craft. Thanks for sharing!

Ismael, Another great build, and an equally great story to go with it. I do remember seeing these cars with the tobacco sponsorships removed for certain races, and honestly I thought it made no sense. If the cars were allowed tobacco sponsorship, then those countries should have allowed them to be seen during those race weekends. The resulting replacement markings only brought more focus to what should have been there that a good percentage of track fans wouldn't have paid much if any attention to.
Historically, I've shied away from Revell of Germany race car kits just for the decal issues. if there weren't AM decals available, then I just took a pass. I do understand that their decals today are ok such as the 934 series, and do plan on giving them a try.

Skill and care... And this is what is the result. And actually the color looks dairly believable, ay least in the photographs. The original factory color was a solid, yes, but quite an intense, saturated navy blue, so as long as the metallic bits don't sparkle, and they don't in these photos, the Corbette blue captures some of that intensity. Anyway, very nice indeed!
