The Avanti has been one of my favorite cars since I first saw them in 1962 or 63. I agree they don't appear dated. In my opinion they have a different "exciting" look that is not like any other car and is still unique today. I see them occasionally at the local fathers day car show in Brea Calif. but haven't seen one for awhile now. Beautiful cars.

In the 1980s I worked for a Real Estate company. On of the company's clients owned an Avanti. He was so enamored with the Avanti that he had painted the trim of his house (a three story Victorian) to match the color of the car (gold).

Bill, That's one lucky sighting for sure. I can't remember the last time I actually saw one, but it was mid 70's as I was in college, and it turned my head a complete 180 degrees as I had no idea at 1at what it was.

We went to a car show in Bobcaygeon today and guess what? I could have driven it home for maybe $25,000 but my wife said no. (she should have said yes - when we got to our car to leave it wouldn't start)

Arcticwolf, don't feel bad, my wife won't even go to a car show as her interest in cars is like zero. So how did you get home, and what went wrong with the car? Joel

It just wouldn't fire at all. Then an hour later I tried it again and wroom, just like normal. And I drove it around today and no problems. Unfortunately I don't have the equipment or the knowledge to diagnose this thing. It's an Olds 3.5 4cam and has no ignition module, just cam crank and MASS sensors and the computer does the rest. The local GM dealer is less than useless, they don't even want to see it. I'm not a happy camper.

There is a guy here in Tehachapi CA that collects Avantis. The next time he rolls them out, I will try to get you all some photos. I mean, he has something like seven of them in all different paint schemes. He is a car collector. I'll see if he has a website... here it is! Trust me, he has lots more cars! I didn't have time last weekend to stop. I should have! goldcoaststation.net/cars.html
