Mike, I know that I'm half blind and in need of newer and much stronger glasses, but please accept my apologies for missing your build thread. Just loved your tail of the missing part. So the Carpet Monster made it up to Canada as well? And here I thought that he lived in Suffolk county NY for the summer months basking on our beaches when I'm not building a model. Your find is truly one in a million. Just a great build. I'm really impressed with how well your painting went, and how fast you applied coat after coat. It would have taken me a good two weeks from Primer through both color coats. The color coats look smooth and super glossy. Did you use a Air Brush or a Rattle can? And do you rub out your primer and color coats? I'm a major user of Indy Cal decals, and must have at least one sheet for every model in my small stash. Like you, I've found on a few occasions that I've bought the wrong decal set for a car. Case in point is the Revell Roush Mustang. to bad that Mike doesn't do exchanges. I'm also not fond of having to do stripes with his decals as everyone needs to be individually cut out. a major task for sure. But it can be done. Here's my Lotus 72E that took days to decal: And now I'm going to have to do it the JPS Roush Mustang. You mentioned using the Tamiya masking sheet. Is that the same as their tape with just a removable backing? Joel

I have one of those Lotus 72's. It's still in the box. BTW, Indycals don't offer decals for the Fittipaldi car.

Not any more, I have noticed Michael has changed all the JPS lotus cars to the Bisque not Gold stripping and remainder and dropped the Fitiipaldi car... I personally like the Black and Gold JPS Look , which has actually kept me from doing one.. Chris

Arcticwolf, you're correct that Indy Cals no longer offers these decals because he can't print Gold or even a Silver color. He does offer a close substitute for Silver. I was able to get one set before he switched printers and lost the Gold option. Decalpools.com does offer those decals, and you can get them direct or from Spot Models that carries their full line. It's much quicker from Spot as they have the decals in stock, rather then waiting for Decalpools to silkscreen you a set.

Joel, would you have preferred the decals in Gold and Black or Bisque and Black, just curious? It is very controversial as to what each car ran, since Gold doesn't photograph well , depending on light, Like I said I like the Gold and Black as it adds a certain Prestigious quality to the Livery... CHris, I have pictures of the actual car and the markings certainly look Gold especially with the gloss Black background. I also have pictures of a few builds with the Gold decals, and they also look good with the Gloss Black background. The kit decals for some weird reason are almost a Yellowish color which looks horrendous. Just pulled out my Indy Cal sheet, and it looks almost like a Gold, so it's more then good enough for me. My main concern is not screwing up where which decal goes where. It does look like Michael used the same numbers as the kit decal sheet, or it would be impossible to not screw them up.

The Ebbro kit decals aren't even close to what I want - colour is off, black decals on a black car? - and no JPS emblems at all. I want a proper Fittipaldi car.
I know I'm old, but I'm not that senile yet, the JPS was black and gold. One of the most beautiful race cars I've ever seen. I've still got one of their team jackets (but it doesn't fit anymore).

Is that the same as their tape with just a removable backing? Joel No need to apologize, Joel...no worries, mate. To answer your questions....it is Tamiya primer, Tamiya Pure White and Tamiya Italian Red, all straight from the can. My airbrush abilities leave a lot to be desired and, although the Tamiya cans are kinda not cheap here in good 'ol Canada ($13.99 or more!), I do find I get much better results with them. I just need more practice with the airbrush, I think. Anyway...I am also impressed with the Tamiya drying time. I put the car in my little oven/cupboard over the fridge for about an hour and it's bone dry. Sanding, masking, handling...all possible with no issues...yet. On this particular kit, it was primer, white, masking, then red, all in one day. Quite impressive, it was. I have come to love Tamiya over the last couple of years. Their kits, their tools and their paint are outstanding...so much so, I started an AMT kit the other night and was very unimpressed with the amount of flash, the lack of detail and the fit of the parts. I used to build AMT and Revell/Monogram for years but Tamiya puts them to shame with their level of quality, all the way from the design and molding of parts to the quality of the box they come in. As for the Tamiya masking sheet, you are correct, except it doesn't have the tape texture. It's pretty smooth but basically a big piece of tape with backing paper. You print or draw or whatever on the front, cut it out and stick it on the model. Here's a link to some Tamiya Masking SheetI'm sure that striping the Lotus 79 is going to turn me off for awhile. Knowing how much "fun" a few stripes on the T3 were, I can't imagine the ball I'm gonna have with the Lotus. Yours looks fantastic, btw. Great job!

Great looking job on the T3. I will remember all this when I take it on in a couple of years! I am rebuilding/repainting the Alfa 197C right now, then will start on the 312B that is top of the pile. Then the 312T... it will be a while before I make it to the T2 and then the T3 and T5. I figure I have my work cut out for me! I also have six more kits to refurb or rebuild depending on condition. I figure I'm busy until I am 80 or have a stroke! LOL!

Thank you Joel I'll check that out Thanks for the tip my friend but unfortunately from Spot Models they're a discontinued item. Artticwolf, I originally found Decalpools before I started my dealings with Spot models for what no USA online retailer carried. I ordered decals from them on two different occasions, and both sets arrived about 3 weeks later as he silk screens each sheet as needed. In 1/12 scale they still list on their site the Lotus 78 MkIII JPS livery. In 1/20 scale they list the Lotus 97T JPS of Senna. the Lotus Type 77 & 78 JPS cars, The Lotus 79 & 78 JPS liveries, and the partial sheet for the 72E JPS car to make it for early 73. I've often found with Spot Models is that once they sell through their original supply of anything but kits, it's not reordered. So in a sense they're forcing their customers to buy asap or we're SOL !! Here's the link to their home page for F1 decals: www.decalpool.com/f1Joel

Yes they do, thank you! I ordered the JPS logos for the 72. Hopefully that plus the Ebbro sheet will do the job. Thanks again Joel.
