Yesterday was the 50th anniversary celebration of a defunct road course in Iowa. It only lasted a few years but did host a round of the 1964 USRRC season with Shelby and Chaparral participating. We drove in and were ushered right on to the track. Pavement is badly broken up and mostly down to one lane, but still a thrill to finally drive it after hearing about it for 40 years. I'm talking 30 mph or so... Missed the seminars, one given my an old friend, but soaked up some vintage racing vibe. Several cars who raced there were in attendance, as were a lot of race lovers. Many thanks to the road construction training company who currently owns it for letting us in! Next on my list to visit is Meadowdale, outside of Chicago. Once featuring a Monza style banking (now gone) the ruins are now in a forest preserve. Hopefully we can bicycle around it, but will walk it if we have to, while making shreiking engine near redline noises! Attachments:
