Hi all - I'm George Shaeffer living in (usually) sunny Clearwater, FL, on the beach of the Gulf of Mexico.
I've known Chris Hale for many years, both through many of the old Yahoo Groups, and in person since I went to one of his NNL's in California (yes, all the way from Florida). I've joined a few of the new groups at groups.io, most notably GPMA & TMCC. If you see anything in the various groups signed GDS, that's me.
I build many different things, but my primary interests are 1/24 old, pre-wing race cars (I don't build airplanes). A lot of what I build are older kits, ,which I then try to research to make as accurate as I can. I've built a few of the old Monogram 1/24 slot car body/curbside kits (Porsche 904, mid-engine Scarab, Ferrari 275P). right now I'm working on a 1/24 kit of the 1935 Indy-winning Gilmore Special. I don't know exactly when it was released, but it was sometime in the mid-1950's. I also like to build the unusual. one future project will be the XKE Hearse from the movie "Harold And Maude" and an earlier project, built for an online contest, was a kit bash of the USA-1 Monster Truck and the Italeri 1934 Rolls Royce. whatever it is, it's got to be fun and it's got to be at least somewhat challenging.
My focus is much more on quality than quantity, so my output is low. If I'm not satisfied with how something came out, I have no compunction about taking it apart and starting over (the 1953 Gilmore has already been disassembled twice and been for a prolonged swim in the purple lake).
I guess that's about it, but if anyone has any questions, ask away!
