Very cool. Over the years I've noticed these things in movies and always assumed they had precursors in the physical world. It seems that with CGI the finished product preceded the R&D - such is the magic of sci-fi. In any case, what caught my attention is the fact that Gen 2 which he is working on now will be substantially smaller, lighter, and yet an order of magnitude more powerful. Indeed, I think the reason this thing (Gen 1) is so big is due to the cost and sophistication it takes to reduce the size of the amplification systems (mainly hydraulics) which it's based on. I mean this thing weighs more than 8 tons. The benefits of mass reduction are well known, and increase with the square of the mass reduction. These "mechs" will become more and more intimately related to their operators. He's spot on in focusing on a racing league IMHO. Just like it was in the first decades of the automobile!

Cool! Make mine blue. Or yellow with a #3. I'll put a Corvette Racing sticker on it.
