Hello all a few questions . I have the Atlantis model kit of the 1949 Talbot logo kit . I know it’s a reissue kit from a few different companies I am looking for a different option for the wire wheels I know I have to cut the kit wheels / tires to fit the herb deeks set which I have . How hard of a job is it ? I have seen the video of another member posted here it looks easy but is it really ? It doesn’t show the process of actually cutting of the parts and I have not done anything like that . Also which kit is the best version of this kit to get detail wise ? If you have built this kit or the Alfa please post links and or pics of your builds . Thanks

I have built the SMER and have a Mastercraft for sale $10. plus about $6. shipping they are identical.https://race-car-models.proboards.com/thread/2752/smar-merit-mastercraft-talbot-lago I also have a Heller which may have a few different parts but is also the same kit. If you can pick up one of Indycals engine and Grille 3d printed sets to add a lot to those areas.https://indycals.net/parts/f1parts/49talbotlago.html They have a ton more detail and are much more accuracy. I did the Deeks wire post I just used a Razor saw to cut the backs off took about 10 minutes if you have additional questions please message me I would be happy to help. Chris

The Atlantis kit is the SMER-Merit-Mastercraft kit. The Heller is a different animal. The Heller kit Has a slightly bigger engine with side draft carburetion and exhaust and with different mirrors, different heat sinks for the oil tank and the wheels are plastic spokes that aren't too bad. The SMER wheels have spokes on a clear disc that look pretty ridiculous, and the engine has downdraft carburetion. Both can be made to look good but the SMER will take more work,

Ok great …thanks much for the info I have the Atlantis reissue . So it looks like I will have to get the Heller version . Hi Darylh hope you see this. a couple of questions on your pic . I’m guessing the Heller kit is the car on the bottom . Are those the wheels that come in the kit ? Any close up pics of them ? Also what wheels did you use for the top model ? Thanks for any other info .

The top car is the Heller kit with the kit wheels. The lower car is the Atlantis kit after my fight with the Herb Deeks wheels. My next build will use these FPPM wheels because life truly is too short.

No the set I found are all made and ready to be put in the kit tires after cutting out the part of the kit wheel / tire . I won’t get to it for a while but when I do wish me luck on cutting out the plastic I have to LOL . Thanks again for the info and pics .

No the deeks wheels I have are put together all I have to do is cut the plastic out of the kit tires / wheels . I won’t get to it for a while but when I do wish me luck on that part . Once again thanks for the info and time and pics . What kit is that in your last pic in red ? Also the pinto wheels and tires are out of my price range at the moment but they do look great . I am looking at getting a kit from pinto in the future also . Just might have to grab a set of his wheels at that time. I

The red model is a Maserati. In the late '50s Strombecker Toy Co. used the Merit molds to convert the Maserati into a tethered battery powered car model. I found an old Strombecker box on ebay that had the plastic from about three disassembled Maseratis inside. While looking like a box of junk I put a bid of $5 on it and won. I sorted through the parts and started in on building Stirling Moss' 1956 Monaco winner.
