I had been wanting to do this little 1/43 69 Mustang/Cobra conversion for quite a while so I started... I had a 1/43 1969 Mustang kit, and was very pleased with the Body detail, and also had a Monogram 1/43 Cobra kit I thought if I extended the wheelbase on the Cobra frame it might make a real nice pro Touring or even a race style Mustang. so here is where I am today, I cleaned up the body, stretched the frame, and machined down a set of Mid-90's F-1 Rain tires and wheels to fit underneath the body. I am looking for the stance similar to the first pic and I think I have it with the F-1 Tires being slightly shorter. Yolanda picked the color , Medium Metallic Blue Tamiya TS54. I did lay down a silver under coat last night and hope to get some color on it today depending on the wind. In the meantime I am starting the engine and chassis. So far I am undecided on using the stock yet modified AMT interior tub or doing a scratchbuild interior? More to come Chris

Very cool. I’ve toyed with a few of these kits and the plan was to put the 289 in one of them but I got stalled at trying to make an engine compartment. I added a hood scoop to the Mach1 and a race interior and mini lite wheels on the TA Boss.

I am working on the 289cid out of the Cobra as we speak. Wires, fuel line, belts etc. I have to lengthen the drive shaft to fit the extended frame. So far I'm having a bit of fun with this. I have more Cobra kits and would like to do a Torino AMT kit the same way... Chris

Nice project! 1/43, That has been an elusive scale for me. Cheap kits in this scale are usually awful and the better ones are really expensive. I have a white metal 1/43 project that has been stalled for decades because it is almost an ingot of white metal you need to shape to resemble a car. It is that bad. I only have 1 finished car in that scale.
Thanks, Ismael

Very true about quality and price. I’ve bought some okay less expensive kits but usually have to spend $75 nowadays for a decent kit like Marsh. I built a lot when Starter and Tenariv and other kits were about $40 back in the 1990’s. This is my hodgepodge of kits from some AMT to Sun, Marsh, Tenariv, Testors, to name a few. Attachments:
