Good Afternoon Fellows, I'm building a bunch of Cobras and am short of nice 289s but dont want buy 4 or 5 Revell 26 or 31 Sedan kits just for that sweet 289. So, I bought 4 AMT "small block Fords" off eBay. They turned out to be Boss 302/351 and physically larger that the Revell 289. I will have to narrow and shorten the block after removing the transmision. The heads also have external exhaust mounts I'll have to grind down. And is the transmission the same as a 60's Ford 4-speed? Has anyone done this conversion? Please reply, John

Ford 260/289/302/351W are all the same block. Boss 302 had 351C heads. If you are seeing dimensional differences, it must be in the kit manufacturer. Are you sure you're not mixing scales maybe? 1/25th, 1/24th?

Arctic Wolf, Yeah all the roadsters are AMT 260/289s but the AMT 302/351 is much bigger. I cut off the tranny's and shaved one half of the block about 1/8 inch and the length about 1/16. Now it is slightly bigger than the AMT 260/289 which is what I wanted. I'll have to gen up some Cobra oil pans. The 302/351 heads are huge and I'll probably sell on eBay or donate to the group if anyone wants then, don't want to chop them up. Got some old IMC/MPC Mustang show car "Mustang" valve covers I've been hoarding and a "Manta Ray" set of Webers and valve covers I'll put on some (a little Artistic License"). Thanx, John

Good luck on you're conversions. Sounds like you have the project well in hand. [geesh, an' I have trouble just getting the kit engine to look "fair" without modifying the size and shape-wheew]

Good Afternoon Fellows, Always finding out something new on Cobra's I didn't know before, I love it! While researching 289 Team Cobra drivers seats today, I opened a webpage by Legendary Motorcar Co. "1964 Shelby Cobra-One of the most original 289 Factory Competition Cobra's". It is about Tom Payne's (The Gentleman Driver- He wore a suit and tie while driving - hopefully NOMEX) red number 13, a semi-Shelby Team Car. This website has many EXCELLENT photo's of the restored car and actual period race photos. Anyhow: I didn't know the Team Cobra fuel tank stretched across the car just behind the roll bar. Got to gen up some of those. This car has an alternator vice generator and the tires changed from Goodyears to Firestones and the side mirrors changed. And he ran stacked side pipes sometimes. All little things but race cars never stay the same. I downloaded many photos then realized I can only download the webpage not the individual pictures. Anyone know how to do that? Thanx for viewing, John

Save it as "a web page, complete". At your leisure later on, click on the icon, it will open a list of contents, including jpg's of the images, open them and save to your computer.
Alternately, use the snipping tool in windows to highlight the image on your screen, and save as a jpg. (or use Snagit if you have it).

Afternoon Fellows, The eBay witch has cast her spell on me again. More Cobra's and more just purchased, will have lots of parts for sale! But I needed some missing parts for my Cobra's and some were too good to be true (I'll find out but I hope the pictures didn't lie), if so a major buy. Question of the Day is: Has anyone made or know where to get 1/24 or 1/25 Fuel Lines manifold that is on the front of the intake connecting fuel lines from the Webers to the fuel line? Haven't seen any in 1/24 or 1/25 and don't know if anyone makes extremely small perforated tubing. Model railroad stock perhaps. Thinking of using prewired distributor spark plug wire. Thank for viewing, John

Historic Racing Miniatures had a 4 Weber setup that included the part you're referring to.

I like to use the 289 out of the Revellogram '64-'66 Mustangs in my Cobra builds. It is 1/24 scale but squeezes into the AMT 1/25 scale fine with a little effort. This engine has the HRM Weber setup installed. There are parts sellers on ebay that offer just the engine. The 289 in the AMT '67 Mustang/Shelby is also very nice and is 1/25 scale. This engine again has the HRM Weber setup installed, modified slightly to fit the 1/25 scale engine.
