Finishing up a couple builds I had started when I first discovered this forum. I will share them now. The rare yellow McLaren. I couldn't resist building it in the yellow livery because I'll never have a chance to build another yellow McLaren, and also I'm no Prost fan. Prost had the normal McLaren livery. This was a one race livery they put on Keke Rosberg's car at the Portuguese Grand Prix in 86 to promote the brand new M@r1b0r0 Lights. It never appeared in any other practices or races. Keke went out early with mechanical issues. Picked this kit up a year or so ago and includes both the yellow livery and the normal fluro red livery. The box says Platz Nunu but the trees all say Beemax. I've never built any kits from any of those companies so I had no idea what to expect. It actually built up really nice. I enjoyed the build quite a bit. Some nice details molded in, fit was good and the decal sheet was solid. Even included the Tag-Porsche lettering on the valve covers, so that made it easy to make those look nice. I just used the kit seatbelt decals, a little flat, but better than a blank seat, and I just added some quick and easy ignition wiring. A nice little engine model, but research photos show it to be 90 percent black. Not much call to add details there. I really don't have any complaints about the kit. The only issues are down to my own inadequacies as a builder. Even though I applied the decals to each wing end plate on different days and set them aside to dry, I still managed to fat thumb one of the decals and roll it under itself. No surprise there, I'm my own worst enemy. Likewise I think I must have nudged the Tag Hauer decal on the windscreen as it is also no longer straight. Big facepalms there. However, those mistakes not withstanding, the decals lay down nicely and go over shapes fairly nicely. It also has some raised lines to help you line the chevrons up. Naturally, I missed and probably should have just sanded them off, but oh well. I also picked up some M@r1b0r0 fill in decals to finish it off. I really enjoyed this build, if you read all that, then thank you and I'm sorry. LOL. Now the pictures.

Excellent looking Model Kyle... Chris Thanks Chris! I saw the yellow livery for the first time years ago on Twitter of all places. At first I just thought it was badly developed photo or something. Stumbled across it again and read the story about the Marlboro promotion. From my research it seemed people didn’t really connect the dots between the new lights brand and the yellow livery, so I have to assume that’s why it only made the 1 appearance. You’re right about never knowing about kit manufacturers but I’m glad I picked this one up. It’s a nice one.

I had one of those, I traded it to Brian (4 wheels) for a M23. Not that there's anything wrong with the kit, they're very nice and very accurate fitting, I just don't care for the car. Something about spending hours applying carbon fiber decals just do you can have an all black chassis, lol. Mine was the Aoshima/Beemax version, the only difference is it didn't have the yellow decals - they're readily available aftermarket anyway.
Nice job as always Kyle, you have more patience than I do!
ps: also not a Prost fan

ps: also not a Prost fan Thank you Paul! I hear you too, I looked up photos online and was almost in disbelief as to the amount of black. Black monocoque, black engine, black suspension, black wheels, black cockpit. This would be a great kit for someone not confident in their painting lol. Could’ve slapped it together with no paint and I don’t think it would’ve looked much different. Still I liked the unique yellow livery as a change and being able to model a car of a different driver than normal. It may not be as pretty as those red cars of yours but it’s not the ugliest thing on my shelf. Lol. As for Prost if he’s one of the driver options on kits I have, I’m building the other drivers version every time.

I didn't like him either but I couldn't force myself to put A Prost on it.
They should have made Keke's car that colour all year, it looked cool.
I have a MP4/7 kit if you're interested, it's been started but it's salvageable - I'll never build it.

Love that about your Arnoux car. And Agreed. The yellow livery was cool, if only for not being th same old smoking cowboy look.

Welcome to the forum, Kyle. Glad you found the story but there is more... it was a Marlboro promotion alright but more specifically, a promotion for Marlboro Lights which came in a gold box as opposed to the normal red Marlboro. It ran for one race and had Rosberg as the driver.
As for me, I am an Alain Prost fan and if presented with doing a kit that is either Prost or Senna, it will be a Prost build. Pillory me all you like but I was not a fan of Senna... for the same reasons as I was not a Michael Schumacher fan... nor a Kyle Busch fan. All three were great drivers but their attitudes and personalities had little hubris and that is really important to me.

I did mention the Lights promotion in my short novel above. Lol, I don’t think it worked to well. Probably partially because the yellow on the car looked nothing like the gold on the cigarette packs. I think people were confused. Would have been cool if they’d done the yellow livery all year. I won’t pillory you for being a Prost fan. 😂 We are all fans of different drivers for different reasons. Although I have to say, in my opinion, if you look up hubris in the dictionary you’d likely find a picture of Prost next to the word. And he was just as dirty as anyone else too. But I think most of the truly great drivers are just a little bit full of themselves and not always clean. They do whatever it takes attitude and self confidence undoubtedly leads to success. Undoubtedly Alain was a great driver, just not my cup of tea. Good to have both kinds of fans though. Rivalries are great for our sport!

Kyle, Welcome to our corner of the modeling world, you're going to really like it here.
Very nice job on the MP4 Mclaren. The Yellow paint scheme really stands out. I know what you mean about an all flat black chassis, engine, suspension as my Lotus 99t while yellow on the outside is pure flat black on the inside.
As for Prost, like Patrick I'm still a Prost fan, but just couldn't stand Senna. His attitude of get out of my or I'll crash you out just turned me off. Great driver for sure, but a piss poor attitude. For me, the best all time attitude of a great driver was Clark.

All those guys from that era were really incredible. They’d race anything and everything and I love that.
