Mattia Binotto, team principal and individual largely responsible for the comeback of Ferrari in 2022 after dismal showings in 2020 and 2021, announced he will be leaving Scuderia Ferrari at the end of the year.
A team announcement posted Tuesday morning put an end to the weeks of speculation that followed the 2022 F1 season finale at Abu Dhabi.
"With the regret that this entails, I have decided to conclude my collaboration with Ferrari," Binotto said in the release. "I am leaving a company that I love, which I have been part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the convinction [sic] that I have made every effort to achieve the objectives set."
Ferrari pilot Charles LeClerc finished second in the driver's championship, ahead of Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez.
Ferrari has not announced who will replace Binotto as team principal.
Too bad... I always enjoyed interviews with Binotto and thought he did a good job with Ferrari!

Ferrari got worse and worse as the year went along. Was never a fan and I thought he had to go. Certainly, Ferrari's race stratagies need to change.

Should have been gone two years ago. Let's hope they get back on the right path; there were far to many errors for a team so well funded.

Far too many errors? They only finished second in driver's points and second in constructor's points. LeClerc certainly did more for his teammate than Max did for his! I think Ferrari made a real resurgence this year.

First third of season - 2 Ferrari wins (both Leclerc); 4 RedBull wins (Verstappen) Second third - 2 Ferrari wins (1 Leclerc, 1 Sainz); 5 RedBull wins (Verstappen) Last third - 0 ferrari wins; 6 RedBull wins (Verstappen)
Ferrari did not improve as the season went along.

Mike While I agree, Mike, I don't know if Binotto is responsible for all of it. You don't see Mercedes dumping Toto Wolff when their season was even more dismal. And the year Gunter Steiner had at Haas should have been enough to show him the door as well as several others. And while this is strictly personal opinion, I'm not sure that I believe everything Red Bull is selling... they have not been the most forthright team in F1. But Binotto is out and I'm not sure that was the correct move. Big year with lots of changes. I might have given him one more year...

You know these Guys do build Models, and just like us Ferrari couldn't leave it alone and tried to continue development, and the result...a slow slide down the results.. Binotto looks like Groucho's son..LoL! I hope, as a Tifosi should, they come out of the box like Gangbusters with a new design that puts them in the #1 spot all year but a lot of times, as mentioned, they cant leave things alone as the season progresses.. Toto has a track record of winning, and he owns 33% of the Mercedes Team. Mike

Chris Another true statement... I wonder if any of them have ever taken on an MFH project and cursed it as we all do at some point! Groucho's son... that's pretty funny! I use a Groucho quote in my profiles usually!

It's not just about wins/losses, especially when realistically there are really only three teams that are competing for the championship. They're were issues with pit stops, strategy mistakes, and as mentioned, a poor second half. We'll see what this year brings.
