Scale tire blowup?

Hello,

   I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has dozens (probably hundreds) of model tires in the stash.  Looking for the right tires for a project, I saw this one that can work. Grabbed it and before even trying to mount it on a wheel, BOOM! It disintegrated in my hand.
Good thing it was not at speed 



Look like those cut tires you bury in the sand.
