Hey! I'm Alter Renner. I began building plastic models in 1956. That was mostly airplanes with a few cars. By 1959, the mix had switched to mostly cars and an occasional airplane. I've never really stopped building over all these years, and I've certainly never stopped buying! Where I grew up (Pacific Northwest), when you said racing, you meant road, drag or boat racing. Other than Indy and Sprint cars, ovals never entered the conversation. I'm Alter Renner on two fronts: I"m old (Alt), and I raced a long time ago (Alt und Renner). I did get to live through the golden era of the 50's, 60's and 70's racing, though, experiencing it both in America and Europe. Often, when building road racing car models from those eras, I can hear echos.

Welcome to the group. I agree, the '50s-60s-70s were a really incredible time for racing. What did you race?

It started with a Lotus super seven. Then there was the Cobra at Sebring, followed by a Lotus 23... Oh, wait, you asked what I raced! Sorry, just finished John Morton's book. Good read. I started with an English Ford in D sedans (learned to be smooth and not scrub off speed that would take the rest of the session to get back). Followed that with a TR3 F car (learned a lot about trans rebuilding) When I came back to the States, married with a small budget, I ran a F440 Scorpion. Did some rent-a-rides to keep my license up, and realized I wasn't all that good. Too much imagination. I could just see those re-bars and concrete clumps off course at Sebring (later confirmed when I lost it at turn nine and saw those re-bars and concrete clumps). Not grand. Usually small bore, but it was a great way to spend a lot of money.
